Hi Guys. This event seemed to be well supported so I have arranged another volunteer opportunity for us on 26 July 2014, also from 12 - 2 to help feed the kids. They can only accommodate 6 people at a time so we will have to do it on first confirm first serve basis :-). Here is more information about the organisation.

Door of Hope was started by the pastor
of a church in downtown Johannesburg called Berea Baptist Church. In August
1999, this pastor realized that babies were being abandoned in the city and
needed homes to live in while they waited to be adopted.

So she put a hole in the wall surrounding the church so mummies could place
their babies inside 24 hours a day.  A
sensor alerts the people in the house whenever a little newcomer has arrived.
They fetch the baby and care for the baby, until the baby is transferred to the
“baby house”.  That’s how Door of Hope
got started…with a “hole in the wall”.  Since
1999 we have received 1339 babies.

At least 5 babies are abandoned in
Johannesburg on a daily basis. Our babies come from the hospitals, police, and
mothers and through the hole in the wall.

Our vision is to help in meeting the
needs of these babies so that they may grow up to be people that have a
positive effect in South Africa and the world.

Our objective is to rescue and receive
these babies from any source in cooperation with other agencies. We provide a
temporary home whilst seeking a forever family, suitable long-term fostering or
other permanent care for each baby.

My 17yr old daughter would like to join us. Would it be possible?

Personally I would attend without your daughter first to see if she would be able to cope with this as not all the kids are healthy and well. I can be difficult for teenagers to deal with this. So for now - please come on your own first and then you can jusdge for yourself.

Hi Louise. She has visited the sanctuary for abandoned babies in Florida on a few occasions in the past but if we are going to be too many for the home then I'll take her along another time. Thanks

Hi, my daughter is 15, will she be allowed to join us?

Hi Lisa. It shouldn't be a problem. I think that maybe the first time you should just go alone first and see for yourself. Then you can judge if she would be ok with it.
