A Message from Rob:
I LOVE tennis!! My relationship with running is a bit more complicated. It's more of a love/hate type thing. I love the energy and excitement of races, but I hate running alone. So I figured, why not start a Queens Tennis meetup that incorporates warm up and short distance runs before we play tennis. Two of my favorite parks are Astoria Park and Flushing Meadows/Corona Park, so I will be alternating the meetups between these two parks. Both are great for running and tennis. The purpose of this group is to bring together as many Queens area tennis players as possible (all skill levels welcome), with a secondary emphasis on doing a little running to warm up, burn some extra calories, and get a better look at these beautiful parks of ours. If you only want to play tennis and have no interest in running, that is fine, you're still welcome to join us..... ***Please view these meetups as hitting sessions, mostly with 4 people to a court. It's a good way to find partners on the same skill level for individual games/hitting sessions at a time/place determined amongst yourselves. So be prepared to share courts. The only requirements are a kind heart, friendly spirit, sense of humor.... and a tennis racket would be helpful as well! :) Because we will be playing in NYC Parks, a tennis permit or day passes are also required. Hope to see you at a meetup soon.
Thanks everyone, Rob
If you RSVP for an event, please show up or give us 24 hours notice by updating your status, that you cannot make it. Tennis is only fun if there is someone on the other side of the net... :)
In general, for the summer season, we play outdoors at NYC parks, thus a permit or day pass is required. In late fall and for the duration of the winter, we take it indoors and permits/day passes are no longer required. The indoor courts charge an hourly fee..... So to sum that up, when we play outdoors in the NYC parks, you will need a permit or day pass. If there is a roof or bubble over your head, we will be paying an hourly court fee, thus no permit or day pass needed....
