Welcome to The Red Veil and the world of Belly Dancing! The middle-eastern term for belly dance is Raqs Sharqi. The origins of this ancient dance is believed to be in fertility and childbirth, and passed down from mother to daughter. Originally, Raqs Sharqi was danced only for women by women, which gave them a sense of empowerment. Over generations, many different flavors of this beautiful art have evolved including Baladi (folkloric), Cabaret, Gypsy, Egyptian, Moroccan, East Indian, Oriental, Turkish, American Tribal and even Goth, just to name a few! In The Red Veil classes, we concentrate on fundamental isolation movements (basic to the dance) and dancing with zills (finger cymbals) and veils! Visit www.TheRedVeil.com and come join us!
