Heyde from the Deutscher Sports Club/Richmond German Society has given me more details and is welcoming us to attend this very awesome event!!! Here is part of the description that she sent:

NOVEMBER 14th. Doors open 6 PM. Tickets are $20.00 each (includes food, beverages, program, music/dancing) and are being sold at the door. Food starts being serve at 6:30 PM

Kappenfest is fun and it is the celebration of the beginning of Karneval which will be in Feb 2010.

Wear you caps or funny hats. The new Prince and Princess will be introduced and at this Kappenfest, after the program, we will have a Line Dance Instructor teach a "new" Line Dance. Music by Alpenhof Musikanten.

For those that are interested, The Club sells tickets for Raffle that is held at intermission.

Here is the description from the Richmond German Society's website:

November 14, 2009 Kappenfest (St. John?s) The Kappenfest rings in the annual German Karneval Season, which starts in Places like Cologne, Duesseldorf, Aachen, Mainz, and many other cities in the Rhineland, every year on November 11, at 11:11. On that day the fools take over and fancy balls, and seasonel comedy shows are celebrated throughout the region.

The Deutscher Sport Club has been trying since the beginning to live up to this tradition by sponsoring a Karneval Comedy Program, which is followed by a typical German Dance evening, which features one of the local German bands. This year the Alpenhof Duo will play for us.

You can only RSVP "Yes" or "No" for this event, and you must RSVP by midnight on Wednesday, November 11th. The Richmond German Society needs a fairly accurate head count so that they can prepare enough food for everyone.
