Attend the February Meeting

At our January meeting, a number of people expressed an interest in Thailand, so this month we will share what we know about visiting Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. We'll talk about tour providers as well as independent travel options. we will also have our usual exchange of travel tips and experiences. One of members, Lauren, an independent travel agent with a lot of experience in  South East Asia as volunteered to lead the discussion.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I hope my rambling was somewhat cohesive and informative. Sorry I didn't get to anything, but I'm always willing to share more info about travel! Hopefully I can do it again, and if anyone has any specific questions, feel free to message me anytime! :)

Nolan is an entertaining speaker. Just wished we'd had time to hear about all the SE Asian countries.

Thanks, Nancy; count me in. Also, I previously got messages from Ila Lewis, Ron and Judy Knott, Margaret Norville, and Marge Wells that they intended to come.

I have booked Eastern Empire for the 21st. We can have about 25. I highly recommend the all you can eat and you order from the menu and it is cooked to order

Hi all, looking forward to our next Meetup! I know people have been curious about Southeast Asia, and as I prepare for my 8th trip to the area, I've got lots of knowledge and info. I'm not quite sure what people would like me to cover or how best to address it. I'd love input from everyone on what general things to discuss (I'd imagine places of interest, ways of getting around, general prices, what to avoid, etc.) and also any specific subjects or areas to discuss. From the last meetup, it seems like Thailand and Bali are the areas of most interest. I've been all over though, so I'm open to discuss anywhere! (Full disclosure - haven't been to North Korea, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, or anything west of Thailand, though I'll be in Myanmar at the end of the month, and am vaguely considering a hop to East Timor to check it out! The rest of the countries though, I've visited at least once, some as many as 6 or 7 times!)

Looking forward to your input! :)

      Hi Loren,

Hi Loren, Thank you for your generous offer, and yes, speaking for myself, you are right on target about what I would like to know. I have never traveled in Southeast Asia and would love to do so, but it seems a bit daunting. Other questions besides the ones listed in your message: What travel books did you find best for planning an itinerary, lodging, transportation? Specific recommendations for lodging? What other countries you liked in Southeast Asia beside Thailand? I'm not a big city person so any recommendations for countryside areas would be great.
