The Practical, the Pragmatic, and the Pragmatistic

The title calls to mind a certain Spaghetti Western movie starring Clint Eastwood in 1966 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (IMDb). In a way, the analogy is apt in light of our prior discussion on the causes sustaining human actions. (Jan. 30) We will look more closely at the facts concerning practicality in order to understand better what is practical, what is pragmatic, and what is pragmatistic.

We will start with a review of the context surrounding practicality. (See "Moral Chits and Creds  (Oct. 31, 2013) and "The Distinction of Morals: Decision and Consequence" (Dec. 20, 2012).) Why is there a need for practicality? What does it require? How does causation fit into its understanding? What is the "subject" of practicality? Is it a state, a practice, a method? And what is the object of practicality? Is that the practical, the pragmatic, the pragmatistic?

If we have time, of course, we will attempt to map these notions to the movie's title. Who is betting it will be a straight correspondence?

On the same theme, the Disney movie ~John Carter~ (2012) has a great line near the very end 2:02:16. http://www.imdb.com/t...

Practicality goes hand-in-hand with responsibility. Each is employed in a different direction of causality.

After much contemplation of the question, I think I may have come up with something.
