Re: [rawfood-551] Support & Gain

Sorry All,

I am going to take a moment to add something here: Stacey, your intro to your juicing offer is presumptuous at best. Your responses to Elyon are insensitive and dismissive at best. A successful meetup group requires team effort. Anything short of this will equal failure quite quickly. A good product sells itself. A good salesperson knows this and behaves accordingly. Your motives and your thought processes are misguided. Your written words fail to show that you know how to listen to people or to bend over backwards to make things work. Everyone would like to, and often must, make a buck. But love, hope and faith in our fellow humans will be much more sustainable, and dare I say more profitable (?), than ordinary sales tactics.

Don't be disheartened. Just please understand your audience.

How do I get paid, by the Hospitals, Corporations, and Individuals which respond to our companies advertisements..get this part, "in the market place". I regularly educate people for free, and...get this part too, if they want to engage in anything more, they contact me "outside" of the Free event. I survive by making it a mission to focus on helping people, and the money takes care of itself.

The way it sounds to me is "Hey, I am going to offer you guys a discount, and you only have to pay, get this $49.00 to get it. Now aren't you excited about that? a 10% discount for $49.00? Even more, "I am going to show you, "my friends" how to plant a garden, and to come play in the dirt with me will only cost you, $49.00".

I really don't mean to be so straight forward, but there is absolutely NO reason a person has to charge. Do the event, expose your skills and knowledge, and offer people the right to choose if they want to work with you after. After all, you get the tax deduction as a  "business". Get outside businesses to pay for it so the "friends" can enjoy the information for FREE. You can even "ask them" to support those business, but, its their choice. Business are happy to do that, I know, we do it! Instead, if we are leaders in the community of RAW, we should be asking what we can do for the community, not what the community should do for us.

I mean, did you know, some families at times have to decided between eating fresh raw fruit, or pay to play? Some raw foodist are on really tight budgets... and they really want to learn more; but instead, they come to those which "are proverbial" leaders (leaders being those with a specific knowledge), and what do they get, "you can not participate until you pay me?" Heck, I don't even know if the information is something I don't already know!

Anywayz... in the end, like most in the america's you will exercise profit over passion and love - its the way of the west. I will not entertain this topic past this. Fact is, I am an educator which has a business. I define the business, you on the other hand allow your business define you, and the RAW community will pay the price....as long as it stands that way.

So I will sum it up this way... If your going to charge, then label it and be upfront. I feel like Monsanto has taken over. You want to take over, re-engineer and change what was free and social - not business, and then want me to agree with you on not just telling like it is. Do your business outside the group of "friends of the community". I have given you a few ways to make it free, now, let's see if RAW food and sharing it is your passion - business and profits, just like the big companies. Remember, most big companies reflect the morbid personality of those in the lead, business and profit first and foremost, regardless of how the people feel.

You know Stacey, even though you want, or you will let others put their hands in my pocket - or at least try, I still have love for you, because deep inside I know you probably do love RAW.

P.S. I don't need you to get discounts, at least for me personally, most business give them regularly.

Warm regards,

Elyon

Hi Elloyn,

do you not get paid for your work? how do you survive?

The meetup events with a fee associated to it are to pay the person whom is teaching the course, offering the service or product so they may earn a living.  I am not the one whom sets the price for these events, they are set by the person offering the event and they need to recoup the cost of having the event so "by donation" is not really an option sometimes, but when it can be available it surely will.

Do you not want to pay the person for their expertise in gardening, food foraging, farming, yoga, etc.?  Are these not events that most of the raw community would enjoy going to and enjoy paying for?  Do you not like having the option to buy organic produce at wholesale prices with your fellow raw foodists so you all save money?

I feel that there are free events and there are events that have a charge and there is a balance, both of which we may all enjoy together as a community. I am happy to post your events that you are having as well as contribute to the grocery store list, as both sound amazing.

Thank you for your comments and concerns. All my best, look forward to meeting you soon!

Hi Stacy:

Actually, there is a free meet-up, and I would love to have anyone which is in the Woodland Hills Area visit. In fact, I would ask for each person help in this way - bring one of your favorite "protein" recipes! Or, if one can not attend email me the recipe.

I am going to be speaking about the body's nutrient requirement, and how to avoid unbalancing ones hormones when eating any carbohydrate. What I would love to do is integrate into the talk regular foods that people love to eat.

Also, I have a friend which is opening a sugar-free store, mainly for diabetics, but, I was talking to him about stocking foods for the raw, vegan, and vegetarian community. He said give a list of preferred foods, and he would consider the list with me. So, even if a person can not attend on Wednesday, I will be at the same location on Saturday. You can get all the details at

So, if you can not attend, send to me by email ([address removed]) your favorite rawlicious recipes (actually it can be vegan or vegetarian too :-0  ) its usually a mixed crowd... and give me one of your favorite foods.

Come and learn everything you can about how to meet the protein requirement of different body types and metabolism, how the body sees and uses proteins differently, how to talk raw science and educate the medical professionals (which do not think raw, vegan, and vegetarians can obtain adequate protein in our chosen lifestyle... Leave knowing how to maintain that healthy, vibrant and energetic body!

The meet up is free of course...come join us...

And Stacy, I thank you for your honesty. People do not care how much we know, until they really know how much one cares. There are 350 million or so adults in the US market, we don't have to make it a matter of obtaining compensation for people we meet and maybe will call, one day, my friend. And because my friends do love me, they have never left me short. At the end of the day, this is the very essence of the RAW community - Love; and love is an investment in other people. Like all investments, you may not get a return. Any business that is "good" business will usually make up for any free efforts over time by good old fashion referrals - if its good. Charging "friends" of the community, only makes me doubt a person.

No this is not just an opinion, I give FREE talks to groups all across the state, and its been 15 years in business. So all-in-all, we may never see eye to eye on charging "friends" of the community. But then how about charging AFTER a function, and having people "donate" according to the "perceived" value they obtained from the event? Now that is an idea, right? :-) Kind of like what our government did not do with raw milk...Let the people decide for themselves. :-)

All my best!..

Hi Eloyn,

I am sorry that you feel this way.  I come from the point of view that every thing and person has a value and should be compensated for that value.  I do not see any harm in raising funds for the meetup dues as we all gain a benefit from being a community.  I also do not see any harm in promoting each others sustainable, healthy business ventures which further promote this type of lifestyle.  Most of which offer very useful information, products or services!

I do believe in having a variety of events some being free, some by donation and others at a cost. It is actually hard to plan events that are within this lifestyle that do not cost anything, even the time it takes to plan the free events  is considered valuable and thereby a cost can be associated with it.

Thank you for the time you have taken to voice your concerns, and if you have free events that you feel we would all like to participate in then by all means, please feel free to suggest them on the meetup group home page, as I'm sure a lot of people would love to attend.

All my very best to you!
Stacey

What ever happen to the meet up days where it was not more selling? Where the focus was people and come as you are? I have my own meet up site, and a few dollars from local businesses to advertise on the side, more than covers the cost for the meet-up site.

Sorry if I seem like I am complaining, but it just seems like another commercial business just expanded to own a meet-up group. Does not feel like people sharing with people which have the same lifestyle. Just kind of tired, everybody in the natural world trying to  make a dime on other people trying to be raw and natural.

Hope there will be meet ups where you get to meet people which love the lifestyle, sharing what different things we do, and how it may benefit or appeal to others.

All my best--
