We're back with the first Django meetup of the new year!
This month's meetup features Andy Smith (a.k.a. Termie) of Google, who will be talking about using Django with Google App Engine, and the efforts to provide proper non-relational database support to Django. Having spearheaded the effort to port Jaiku to Google App Engine, he brings years of practical experience to the discussion.
Pizza and Soda will be provided for free, sponsored by Google.
Note that this location is at Google SF, NOT at Six Apart as all of the other meetups have been.
Was hoping for some code demos but appreciate the overview.

It was a bit sales-pitchy. But I am very glad I went. I wanted to evaluate app-engine for a while, and this gave me the opportunity to learn exactly what I needed. Now, unfortunately for google I learned that since app engine doesn't handle geodjango very well that means I can't use it on my current project. But that was very valuable information to me, that otherwise I may have spent a lot of time looking for. I may still use it on other projects, or may revisit it when it handles geodjango a bit better.
So yeah, it's was a sales-pitch I'm glad I saw.

Good meetup it seems like more and more developers are moving to "NoSQL" style databases.

The food and location were great. The speaker was pretty good. The topic was less interesting than I had imagined.

Great presentation. Next time maybe a "Hello World" example would be good.

Very informative, motivated me to checkout appengine again. Interesting tradeoffs for going that route. The pizza was alright too.
