  • This location is shown only to members

NOTES:

• If you'd like to come but can't make this event, we are usually scheduled every other Tuesday and one weekend day a month. Next weekend event is Sunday, August 17 @ 12:15. Next Tuesday event is August 5th.

• If you'd like to be an event host, or want to give it a go just once, for the weekday or weekend events, just let me know.

• If you aren't able to attend, please be sure to unRSVP as SFMFB organizes each day's labor by the number of volunteers signed up.  Sign in twice, once on the their computer, then on my SFGT RSVP sheet.

DETAILS.  We will be helping to sort, package and distribute nutritious foods for the community with the SF-Marin Food Bank. Often, we repackage bulk items like rice or beans into smaller 1 pound bags for quantity distribution.  But there's also sorting of apples, plums, and other items into smaller, more manageably sized boxes.

GUESTS.  If you are bringing guests that include children, they must be 11 years of age or older.

APPAREL.  It's important to dress in layers as the temperature in the warehouse is often cool. Because you'll be helping to repack food, please wear casual, clean clothing; long pants, securely fastened jewelry, and closed toe shoes. They will not allow you to work with any peek-a-boo tootsies for safety reasons.

PARKING.  Weekday volunteers, street parking is free and has a 4-hour time limit - perfect for volunteer shifts! Please utilize available street parking first so that agency shoppers can use SFMFB parking lot to load their vehicles.  Evening and weekend volunteers, you're welcome to utilize SFMFB parking lot as agencies do not shop during non business hours. Additional street parking is free and abundant.

REPORTING. We ask all volunteers to sign in upon arrival. For weekend shifts and evening shifts, please report to the south side of the building, entering through the central pedestrian door. Signs will direct you to the volunteer break room.

POQUITOS

(415) 643-3900. After our hard work, we can reward ourselves with yummies like sangria, beer, tapas and more at Poquitos. Poquitos is located at[masked]rd St. between 20th and 22nd in the Dogpatch neighborhood, accessible by Muni T and 22 lines, Caltrain 22nd St stop.  If you're driving from the food bank to Poquitos, there's generally a few spaces available one block over on Illinois St.

ABOUT THE SF- MARIN FOOD BANK

The SF-Marin Food Bank works to end hunger in San Francisco. They provide donated and purchased food to non-profit agencies enabling them to give nutritious meals or supplemental groceries to thousands of low-income families and individuals in our community. These agencies range in size and mission, from the city's largest soup kitchens to smaller agencies such as after-school programs, AIDS service providers, battered women's shelters, child care centers, food pantries, health clinics, homeless shelters, residential programs for people in recovery or transition to independent living, senior lunch programs, and street outreach programs. They are the largest distributor of food to non-profit agencies in San Francisco; for many agencies, they are their only source of food. Check out their impact.
