The World Affairs Challenge is an innovative program and academic competition on international affairs for middle and high school students. With the help of a coach, students join teams at their school and research a topic relating to a global theme. Students participate in four events involving presentation, collaborative decision making, art and content knowledge. Students build skills like critical thinking, teamwork, public speaking and leadership. Each year, the Challenge addresses a different global theme.

This year’s theme is “6 Billion on the Move: Human Migration in a Global Society.”

Looking for volunteers to help out for the day at the World Affairs Challenge 2009! March 14, 2009 8am to 4pm at San Francisco State University

They are looking for full day and half day volunteers. Full day volunteers can be one
of three types of volunteers:

1. Judge - score student presentations throughout the day; must commit to full day (8am-4pm) and attend an orientation prior to the event - must be 21 years or older. ORIENTATIONS FOR THIS POSITION ARE 2/19, 2/23, 2/24 AND 2/25 Downtown SF 6-8PM. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND AN ORIENTATION TO VOLUNTEER AS A JUDGE.

2. Classroom Proctor - manage classrooms where competition events are taking place throughout the day; must commit to full day (8am-4pm) and attend an orientation prior to the event - must be 16 years or older. ORIENTATIONS FOR THIS POSITION ARE 2/16, 2/17/ 2/18 AND 2/26 IN SF DOWNTOWN 6-8PM. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND AN ORIENTATION TO VOLUNTEER AS A PROCTOR.

3. General Volunteer - variety of event logistics, including greeting participants and visitors, registering students, setting up/distributing breakfast and lunch, handing out t-shirts to students, collecting evaluations, etc. NO ORIENTATION REQUIRED.

Please keep in mind that there will be a lot of response for volunteering without an orientation, but if any of you can spare the extra time and do an orientation to be one of the other 2 volunteer types, that would be splendid!

There is a volunteer form that I will email you after you RSVP and indicate which type of volunteer you'd like to be. This needs to be sent back to our WAC organizer by February 13th!

Thank you, as always, for Giving!!
