If on a Winter's Night a Traveler- Italo Calvino

Join us on Thursday September 12th  at 7:00 PM. We will meet to discuss this novel by Italo Calvino “If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller ”. We chose to meet again at  “La Boulange du Dome”- at Westfield San Francisco Center right under the dome. The place was quiet enough and we were able to fit all the attendants. However, we will look for a different venue,  and we are open to suggestions. It seems meeting in the Financial District is very convenient for the majority. So if you think of another place we can meet, shoot me an email.

We had a great time discussing the “Name of the Rose” yesterday, it was so very interesting to hear all of your observations. We are looking forward to meeting you again and hopefully, meeting new members!!

If you are just joining and/or did not have a chance to read the book, you are still welcome to come and meet us! We will pick the next book to read that day as well. Hope to see you there! James & Dilcia

If on a winter's night a traveler (Italian: Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore) is a 1979 novel by the Italian writer Italo Calvino. The narrative is about a reader trying to read a book called If on a winter's night a traveler. Every odd-numbered chapter is in the second person, and tells the reader what he is doing in preparation for reading the next chapter. The even-numbered chapters are all single chapters from whichever book the reader is trying to read. The book was published in an English translation by William Weaver in 1981 (From Wikipedia)

My mind was bent and properly folded by last evening's discussion.

    Hello all,

I am really, really sorry I am not going to make it tomorrow night. My daughter is in town for just a few days and we have too much to get done. Many many apologies...

Thanks, Norma! I just read the article - very interesting. (Also seems like an intriguing site. I will bookmark it and explore...) Have just started our Calvino book. Have no idea where it's going or if it relates in any way to Hemingway, mid-century American (or Italian) issues, or any sort of "utopianism". Looking forward to the meeting!

I also just had the chance to read the article. I can identify with some of his impressions about America. The sense of constant activity and the organizing and planning ahead of time… I also don’t get how it relates to Hemingway- but I get the impression there is more to it than what is written in the article.
I am enjoying the book as well. He drives like a maniac…but takes you to fun places!! Looking forward to seeing you again.

I got so lost in the book that I just re-started it again. No multi-tasking while listening to the audio, and I've gotten some of my other books out of the way. This time I'll get a handle on it... I hope.
