Back pack at Henry Coe S.P.

Our first official back pack, this will give new back packers a chance to try out their gear, others to fine tune theirs and all of us a chance to share our ideas. A new moon should provide plenty of star gazing although the night will be cold. Millaege and elevation TBD but you should expext to hike 6 miles in on sat. and 6 out on sun. Approx. 1500' elevation gain/ loss. Heavy rain will cancel as determined by leader on fri. 12 -3 - 10.
If you have gear you can share or would like to borrow, please post on the message board under the dicussions header. More info to follow!

Great backpack trip for this 1st-timer. I'm so grateful for the generous loan and sharing of gear that I did not own. I learned quite a bit from the more experienced backpackers in the group and I'm looking forward to doing a 2-to 3 night trip as a next step! Thanks for organizing John.

The little bit of rain and the short day kept this from being a 5 star for me. It was a nice quick backpack to get some experience. Looking forward to the spring time to get some more trips in.

It turned out to be a really great trip. The weather cooperated as we got only mild sprinkles and not as cold as expected temps. The camp spot was in a great meadow, we only saw one other person and the hike out was superb as the fall colors were awesome. Kudos to Richard and MP for making their first back pack despite the weather forecast, that says a lot about these two! It was a great crowd and we look forward to the next.

Just the right amount of time considering the weather. Had tent set up and all "tucked in" before a gentle patter of rain to lull you to sleep. People were great and of course nature's natural color and atmosphere are always sublime. Now that it is pouring outside I am glad I am indoors with a nice fire in the woodstove.

Not sure we will go that far with the packs. I would like to make camp on the ridge so we are warmer have better views and earlier sun and possible sooner out if need be. We can continue hike w/o packs after camp. It's all up in the air so we can talk about it sat. morn. That area typically is dryer than the coast. I used to be in weather forecasting before I got fired.

I know we are heading in from the Hunting Hollow entrance. We might be aiming for Kelly Lake?

The weather forecast shows chances of rain, but hopefully it will be light, scattered showers.
