The Science Book Club Meetup Group Message Board › Science book club stuff

Science book club stuff

Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who has been a semi-loyal participant these past 2 1/2 years! I am so glad I started this group and even with added responsibilities I intend to keep it going as long as I'm in the area.
I think things have been going well. I'm never able to prepare quite as much as I would like, but at least I've actually read the entire book all but one of lo these many months (curses, dinosaur book!)
However, like many other meetup hosts, I do find it frustrating to have a lot of no shows of people that have RSVPed yes. I would like to remind people there's no shame in bowing out at the last minute, but it just takes 30 seconds or less to change your RSVP. This past meetup we had 12 no shows out of 20. That's the worst percentage yet. I am going to have to change the settings to boot people if they have several no-shows.
I'm leaving April and June open for two Physics books to be selected by and discussed by the physics-hungry members of the group. I know Lydia was interested and others at this past meeting were as well (Dorothy? Alf?) Please email me and let me know what books you would like me to post as the titles for those months. I will be taking those two months off which will be of help to me in getting my spring coursework in.
Thanks to Brian there's a place on the discussion board for future book recommendations. Please remember I really focus on life science as choices for this group. If you have never participated but would like to make recommendations, take a look at the past choices for ideas.
Everyone stop complaining about wanting more physics books!! One of you needs to step up and start a competing physics group! :) In all seriousness, if one of you really would like to be in charge of a "shadow" group, we could share this site. We could have a physical science book and a life science book every month, and meet on two different days, with you in charge of that group. People could choose which book they want to read each month and come to either meeting, or both, if they're that hard-core.
Thanks again. Hope to hear from you soon,
