Dinner + Current Affairs Discussion

  • This location is shown only to members

The best talk show on a Monday night. We will be talking politics, current affairs national & international, economics, science, and environment. Let's munch a bunch, then discuss, but no cuss. You can have your topics too.  We can actually have fun talking about this.

I usually throw in a joke or a funny or unusual news story if it gets too serious. This is a structured group: we select a topic, yours or mine, stay on topic, no side conversations, one at a time speaks, raise your hand when you have something to say, then wait to be called on, so one person does not talk too long, we honor all view points.

If you would like to be a facilitator we can add more attendance, I supply training & topics.

Your Monday night entertainment. Discussion groups are the best way to make new friends! Host is Sherry.

I am not going to continue having the political discussions because of the volatile nature of the subject. I'm glad to hear that some of you had a good time. The man who got angry, has been removed from the group.

Current topics, some light, others more serious. A wide range of opinions despite an earlier comment from someone who left too early to give a fair assessment of the group.

I hate to cancel last minute...I've been looking forward to this for weeks! I've had an unscheduled commitment thrust upon me. Sorry...

Do you only have one facilitator for the 19 people who are attending? I have never been a facilitator, but I am willing to help. If you have more than 8-10 people in a discussion group, there will be at least half of the people who will not be able to hear what is said at any given time. Let me know if you want me to help. There is a small room (but no door on it) in the back corner of that facility. Maybe our talking would not bother the other customers so much if we meet in there.

I agree with Linda. It is apparent this event generates interest. If we need another host, personally contact qualified individuals. Can't comment on no-shows, maybe expand the number eligible until you attain a level, inclusive of projected "no-shows".

With 16 people on the wait list perhaps we should have more events like this one. It seems that Phoenix is hungry for intelligent and current dialogue.

Linda, this is going to be the LAST one of the political discussion event. Unless someone comes forward to volunteer to host the event. And, we will see how many actually show up, as we have been having an unusual high no-show number during these summer months. And yes, we do keep track!
