Phoenix Art Museum FREE

Some of you may not know that the Phoenix Art Museum is FREE on the first Friday of each month! It is open from 6-10 PM that night.

Let's meet in the lobby - on the side by the windows. We need a volunteer to hold up the Meetup sign. You can leave messages here to get together before, to grab a bit to eat before or after. There is cafe in the museum, but I'm not sure the cafe is open on Friday night.

It's too hot for the usual First Friday Gallery crawl, but the museum is nice and coool! Normally admission is $15. This night - free! Lots of good exhibits now - see the web site. http://www.phxart.org/exhibition/current

Located at the NE corner of Central and McDowell. The free parking lot is just north of the bldg and can be entered from Central Ave.

Hey guys, sorry I missed you at the end of the walk through of the museum. I got caught up in the fashion design exhibit. By the time I got downstairs in the front about 7:30 I didn't see anyone. I actually drove down to Roosevelt and got a space right on 1st Street - what luck! Walked around for an hour and left. Too bad I couldn't connect w/you at the end. It was nice seeing familiar faces and meeting new people.

See you next time. Kaz, thanks for organizing this, I enjoyed it.

Sorry we lost touch with you in the museum. I'll coordinate the continuing venture a little better next time- the lack of shuttles threw me a little. See ya next time!

It always amazes me, and pleases me, to see so many people (not necessarily Meetup folks) taking advantage of free nights at cultural events. This kind of venue is difficult if not impossible to keep a "group" together, so we wandered along in small clusters or individually enjoying the many galleries of diverse art within the museum. The next time we'll have a more concrete ending point when continuing on to other events.

If anyone is interested, the First Friday Night Gallery shuttles leave from the Art Museum and begin their circuit around the art galleries. Several of us are going to hop one between 7:30 and 8 pm to go gallery hopping on Roosevelt Row - lots of artist openings and new shows, people watching, street performers, bands playing, cool drinks...an eclectic night! If you get to the museum around 6 pm, that should leave plenty of time to see what's new there. Anyone wanting to go to to First Friday with us is welcome to come along! The last shuttle returns to the museum at 10 pm. I'll be at the museum at 5:45.

Sorry about the shuttles last night, folks! I looked on the Artlink website plus another one and neither of them mentioned that the shuttles are not running during the summer! Fortunately, the crowds were sparse and there was plenty of close parking downtown. The Nash had some great jaz, which Bob really enjoyed! (;-) We'll have to do it again, soon!

Of course, free is always good and especially on a hot evening - good to get out of the heat and enjoy some culture.

Hi Alyce. America's Taco Stand is just a mile north east of the Museum on 7 th Street and north of McDowell. They have great carne asada. There is also a Pita Jungle just south and west on Roosevelt and 3rd Ave.
