Field trip to 3 Seattle fabric stores + Brunch!

  • Oct 27, 2012 · 10:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us as we visit some special Seattle fabric stores. After a very sustaining brunch at The Five Spot, we'll walk some of it off by moving up the street to Nancy's Sewing Basket. Nancy's has a good selection of high-end fabrics, a room devoted to ribbons, plenty of bridal/evening/special occasion fabric and cashmere suiting.

Next, we'll visit Stitches on Capital Hill. This store is geared to a younger, hipper, demographic, just right for the area. They have fun, unusual fabrics and colors, accessories and doodads to play with.

Finally, we'll visit Tina's On Madison, at the very east end of Madison Avenue. This store could be in New York's garment district. Tina's has a varied selection of fabric, with lots of silks, sparkle & bling, along with lace, cutouts and drapey fabric that would make beautiful scarves.

Even if you don't have much to spend, join us for a feel fest and the fun of looking at things in the company of others who appreciate the same things.

I hope to see you there!

Thank you! I'm so glad you all had a good time! I certainly did. And it was mostly because I got to meet all of you and become a little bit better acquainted.

The secret of standing in the rain is that it was easier for me than to be squashed in with all the people and noise at the 5 Spot! It was actually kind of refreshing, in a Seattle kind of way : )

I'm already considering another field trip to Shipwreck Beads in Olympia and Billie's in Chehalis in the spring/early summer. Definitely car-pool time...

    See you soon.

Just want to thank Margaret again for the fun meetup - and for standing out in the rain for us! :) Was so great to meet you all.

I don't know if everyone reads the board, so I'm also here to mention there are free tickets available to the Quilt, Craft, & Sewing Festival in Puyallup next week. Check my post on the meetup discussion board for details, if you are interested.

This was so fun! It was great to meet some new sewing enthusiasts and chat with Margaret. Let's do this again soon, and also plan a SewExpo carpool for March!

FYI, other drivers: Pike is going to be closed at Broadway (about a block east of Stitches). Also, the whole Broadway & Madison intersection will be closed, which will affect anyone heading to I-5 South after Tina's on Madison. I sure hope this rain lets up! :-/

    See you all soon
    Remember to wear something red
    and
I suggest you bring cash for breakfast as it makes it easier to leave the restaurant.
    : )

      See you all tomorrow! :)

Hi Everyone - 3 notes for Saturday:

#1. Please wear something red - a hat, a vest, a jacket, etc. - so we can reconize each other quickly at the 5 Spot, and spot each quickly in the stores (not that they're terribly big...)

#2. Since the 5 Spot does not take reservations, we will be seated in 2's & 3's and 4's, as tables become available after 10:30 a.m.

#3. If you want to carpool to Queen Anne, where the 5 Spot is, please mention your general location in the city so people in the same neighborhoods can get together for carpooling.

    That's it for now!

    See you soon : )

PS - if it turns out you can't make it after all, please let me know so that I don't worry about what happened to you - 206/271-1411.

    Thanks

    Thanks Margaret... Im really excited!

Not to worry Farha, you can be a member of both ASG and this group if you want. This group does not require ASG membership.

Oh, by the way, do I need to be a member of ASG first before I join this meetup? It just dawned on me that this is meetups for chapter members... I just saw "sewing" and I count myself in.

I can drive some people between the 3 fabric stores. I have room for up to 4 passengers. Also, if anyone lives in West Seattle, you're welcome to carpool with me. Just shoot me an email.

sorry, I keep hitting enter before I am done with the message, the website is www.millendstore.com and if you are an ASG member, you can call them ahead of time and request a discount. I think we got 15 percent discount on our field trip earlier this year with them. I would have to double check that but I think that was the discount. Even if you don't buy anything, it is so worth looking. Fabric Depot is another highly recommended store there in Portland. Yummy quilting fabric, but they have other fabric too, and such a big store it takes all day to get through it:) Good luck to your grandson in his basketball game!
