Find a new location!

  • July 17, 2014 · 7:00 PM

Hey all!

Let's meet up, hunt down some new bars/pubs/eateries for our book club and have some drinks! I will be posting our first location soon where we will all meet up at 7pm and then (after a drink or two maybe) scout out a few other locations within the city loop. Please post any location suggestions in the comments below :)

Hey all! So here is a rough idea of what I think could be the places we check out on Thursday (in this order):

Beer DeLuxe - Federation Square/Flinders St

Ondergronds Bar - 27 Russell St

    Shebeen - 36 Manchester Ln

    E Fifty Five - 55 Elizabeth St

Royal Standard Hotel - 333 William St

The first four are in short walking distances from each other, and I'm thinking for the Royal Standard Hotel we could all possibly tram? If anyone would like to add/remove a location, add a comment and we shall get discussing!! By the way, I think 7pm in front of Beer DeLuxe would be a good place to meet first. We will move on from each pub/bar as we want, so guys who are running late just upload a comment and we will let you know where we will currently be.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the additions Mark, I reckon if we don't find any good locations tonight we'll check out those venues some other time. Or even if we have extra time we might be able too :)

Hi guys - looking forward to catching up this evening. My housemate also suggested that the Charles Dickens Tavern might be a good spot - often quiet in the evenings with easy-going staff. (And literary-themed!)

Sounds good. We should be able to fit them between Shebeen and E Fifty Five.

    Hi guys!

As some of you know I’m here in Australia for a year (on a Holiday Working Visa) and I love it here! The only thing that’s missing is a job, I have had some trouble finding one. If any of you have some advise I would be really happy to hear from you!

I’ve worked with administration and coordination of projects for several years but I also have some experience working in a pub, a warehouse and a library (all three while at Uni). If you want to contact me I can be found here:

    I'll see you next week!

Great find guys! I'll write all of these locations down and create a simple timeline/map for us so we can visit all of them this night

Possibly e:55 on Elizabeth St, as they do drinks and some food. I was also recently at Ondergronds near the corner of Russell and Flinders St which was a good size for our kind of group, but relatively quiet - even on Friday during happy hour.

Fed sq is a great location for convenience - beer deluxe tends to have big tables with drinks and food. Shebeen is also near flinders stn and has a seperate space.

Royal Standard Hotel 333 William Street. It's 500m from Flagstaff Station. They have a good selection of craft beers on tap and cheap "pub" meals. It's not as trendy as Diksteins but they have a room out the back that you can use for group things for free that you get all to yourself. The main lounge area stays pretty quiet too on Thursday nights. Like I said it's not fancy but it's not feral either and meets the need of being able to hear each other talk, being able to eat and more importantly being able to have a beer :)
