This group is for people who love reading and intellectual discussion but don't take themselves too seriously :) We'll meet once a month at a restaurant or coffee shop around town (depending on where people are coming from), have some drinks, food, great conversation and discuss the book we read - or not. Mostly the book club part of this group is to get ideas for good reads from people, read something 'together' and use the book as a launchpad for conversation. I do not envision it being rigid or handing out bulleted discussion point lists. I'd love to go see movie versions of books we read and complain how bad they were. And just to meet nice, like minded people. About me: I'm 39 and have always been a voracious reader (some times in my life more than others, there were years when the books I read to my kids were the only ones I read). Here are some books I've enjoyed lately: Fiction: Toni Morrison - The Bluest Eye and the Song of Solomon, Barbara Kingsolver: The Prodigal Summer, The Bean Trees, Stephen King: 11/22/63, Alice Sebold: The Almost Moon, Kathleen Kent: The Wolves of Andover, Annie Proulx: Fine just the way it is, Mitch Albom: The 5 People you meet in Heaven...... Memoirs: Cheryl Strayed: Wild, Alice Sebold: Lucky, Mitch Albom: For one more day, J Maarten Trost: Getting Stoned with Savages, Non-Fiction: Bill Bryson: A Short History of Nearly Everything, A Walk in the Woods, Nathaniel Philbrick: Heart of the of Sea, The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, Marlene Zuk: Sex on six legs, Stephen Puleo: Dark Tide. I'm open to reading just about anything, maybe with the exception of romance and vampire novels.
