Join us for a special evening with visiting master mbira artist Patience Chaiteszvi as we explore the healing traditions of the Shona people.

Ms. Chaitezvi is a highly acclaimed musician and teacher. In addition to performing and teaching mbira and Shona culture in Zimbabwe and internationally, she has been confirmed as a gwenyambira (ceremonial mbira player) by Shona ancestors.

Ms. Chaitezvi will discuss and answer your questions on the spiritual traditions of the Shona. She will then play a concert of mbira music.

Copies of her new book “Mapira – Shona Ceremonies”, and her CDs will be available for purchase.

Culture Talk at 7:30PM
Mbira Concert at 8:30PM

Admission: $15 - $25 sliding scale.

This event is sponsored by MBIRA, a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of traditional Shona music and musicians.

Hi Karen, Thank you so much for your interest and for your kind offer. We do have a location. It will be at the MBIRA House, 2323 McGee Ave in Berkeley. . There is plenty of street parking, and the location is 4 blocks from the bus on MLK, and 7 blocks from Downtown Berkeley BART. Don't hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions. Blessings,
    Iya Mahea

What type of location are you looking for and how many people do you anticipate will attend? I would consider offering my home in Novato but if it is more than 5 or so we would need to have the program in my back yard which could accommodate quite a few more and it has been getting fairly cold but not too bad if we stand close together!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
