OK,
So many of us do have children, and we are constantly asking each other what is a good age to introduce safe firearms handling to children. I will always tell a parent that only you know the maturity level of your child. Because we all know what kids do, tell them to not touch something and what happens? I find it best to introduce this topic when you feel that a child is now old enough to understand the importance of safety and protection using firearms.
What better way to introduce this subject? If the response is there, we will have a child's introduction class to safe firearms handling. Ages 5-16. Following the class, we will go to the firing range where female instructors and range safety officers will be present on each lane.
Tuition covers firearms, ammo, hearing and eye protection, targets, and range rental. Anyone interested in signing up a child? Let us know your opinion!

Hello,
I have a friend with an almost 6 year old daughter who may be interested in this class.
Do I understand correctly that my 4.5 year old is too young for this? Or may he still attend?

Tina, is there a reason you're doing ages so old? We have friends whose kids were shooting at NRA before they could read on sandbagged browning rifles. She must have been like 4 and her brother was 5-6 and had been going for years already. Our plan for once we have kids is as soon as they're old enough to comprehend the NRA rules they're going.

This is so important to do. A friend of mine lost her son two weeks ago. He shot himself in the face and died immediately - he was 10. She said he was always so careful and he had been shooting for years. I suppose accidents happen, but it's very important to be sure you teach and supervise your kids when handling guns. Keep them in your thoughts ladies!

Jess,
Thanks for sharing this! I am so sorry for your friend's tragedy. Kids also experience curiosity in other friend's home as well, and they need to know how to deal with these circumstances.
