Run Seal Beach 10k/5k charity race-April 5th, 2014

**RSVPs are closed as you can no longer register as part of the team with the discounted rate...BUT if you still want to run with us as a team you can. Just register and pay on your own and let me know so I can add you here and then you will get updates.**

Hi All! This will be the 4th year in a row we do this as a team and it is the PERFECT 1st race for those of you interested. It is a very easy flat course and a fun atmosphere. If you have never raced in a 5k or 10k before and have always wanted to try...this is the one for you! Come see me if you want some running tips on how to train for your 1st race too. I am always happy to help get someone started in running. :-)

This is the 40th YEAR of this local race! We will register as "Team SHHC" to get the discounted rate. You will print out this form: http://runsealbeach.com/images/2014%20team%20form.pdf, complete it, sign and date it, and scan and email to me or bring to one of the hikes with your entry fee, and I as the organizer will submit us all together as a team. This all needs to be done BEFORE March 1st!!!

This is a flat course in Seal Beach and there is a 5k and a 10k to choose from...but as a "Team" we will do the 10k...but I always have several that join and do the 5k too and we start and finish at the same location so we still get together as a group. Both 5K & 10K courses are run on city streets which are asphalt paved.

All proceeds go to charity and "Run Seal Beach" is a non-profit program. Their sponsors provide this program to make a difference to the community of Seal Beach who we all love. :-) Please support these sponsors who do so much to give back to the community and who have signed up to sponsor this annual race for 2014 and come see them at the Vendor Area on Race Day.

Go to the website: (http://www.runsealbeach.com) and click on the sponsor logos to view their websites.

Last year they sold out and they expect the same this year so I want to ensure we all register EARLY! Run Seal Beach will be limiting registrations for 2014 at the first 5,500 registrations - so don't be left behind!

• If we can get at least 10 committed, we can do this as a "Team" and it is only $28 per person, and NO extra fees...but I will need a commitment and payment no later than March 1st!!!!!

• If we do it as individuals, the 5/10K Run or Walk Early Registration - $30.00 (until 3/1/14) This is if we do NOT have 10 members and go as individuals. There are additional fees this way as well.

• Individual Registration is through "Active.com" so there are additional fees, but if we do the group (minimum of 10 members required) then fees are waived and it is only $28 per person...and I will be paying out of my own pocket if we go as a group so you will need to get me CASH no later than March 1st!

RSVP as soon as possible so I can gauge whether we will be able to do this as a team and I will provide you with the registration form so you do not have to go to Active.com and pay the extra fees.

Oh...and with your registration you get a free Run Seal Beach t-shirt...but as a group we wear our Signal Hill Hiking Club shirts (for those of you that have them. A picture of the shirt is included above.)

Great job team SHHC! What a perfect day with perfect running weather, nice big group and a very fun breakfast afterwards. For those that were not able to make it we missed you. For those that did make it thank you for running. We had a great team and I am glad so many were able to go to breakfast afterwards as well. So fun! As soon as I get the "team results" I will let you all know as well.

I have an extra paid entry - does anyone want it? My husband got called into work tomorrow, and I don't want his entry to go unused. Reply here if you are interested.

We will be meeting as a team in front of Joes Crab Shack in the LB Marina tomorrow (6550 E Marina Dr, Long Beach, CA 90803). Parking is TERRIBLE so arrive early!!! We will take group pictures first then walk over as a team. The "waves" start at 8am so I want to take pictures by 7:45am and then we walk over together as our warm up. There are some that are doing the 10k, some the 5k, some walking some running, so at the start line everyone goes at their own pace. We will meet up afterwards in the general area of the finish line at the pier (we typically meet by the Seal statue on the pier) and take post race photos for those still around. We are going to go to breakfast afterwards at the Rivers End too so if you plan on joining for breakfast make sure you meet us at the Seal so I can have a head count in getting our table. For those of you that have the SHHC blue shirts please WEAR them! For those that don't if you have a royal blue shirt that works. :-)

Thank you to everyone for getting your packets from me already! If you did not sign up through me today is the last day to pick up your packets FYI.

    April 4, 2014

  • Robin

Oh and to clarify: If you registered as part of the team through ME then I have your packet. If you individually registered yourself online you have to pick up your own packet as the individually registered peeps were not included in the box I was given...but you are still part of our team. :-)
