Sin City Woodworkers January Meeting announcement

Sin City Woodworkers, a Vegas valley social and networking group committed to serious (and not so serious!) woodworking discussions, meet on the third Wednesday of each month to share everything from techniques and ideas to information about local suppliers and much more. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 at 7:00, and one of our newer members - Pete Hauser - will be presenting an interesting discussion on making end grain cutting boards.

Pete will be bringing in a billet that has been cut up, and then explain the process on how to glue up and true a new board.  Pete will also have some examples of boards to show us the varieties of patterns that can be made.

These end grain cutting boards are prized by professional chefs as well as anyone who wants to ensure their kitchen knives stay sharp. These boards give you a better cutting surface because you never slice across the wood grain fibers, everybody knows that, right?!  Plus - if  you’ve ever priced these boards - you know these sell for a pretty penny.

This meeting will be held at Studio: Wood It Is!, 2267 West Gowan, unit 106 in North Las Vegas. As always, the public is welcome to attend the meeting, so members - please feel free to bring a guest along. But remember that there are a limited number of chairs in the woodshop. Attendees might want to bring a folding chair if they wish to sit during the meeting. If you have questions or need directions, call the studio at 631-1870.
