Icebreaking and Organising

Hi Sketchbookers!

Lets meet up for a couple of hours and a couple of drinks at Trof (www.trofnq.co.uk) to get to know each other and discuss places, dates and times for our first sketchbooking event.

Feel free to bring any of your current work or sketchbooks as well as any of your own suggestions for places to go and draw.

I hope to see a few of you there.

Thanks very much Matthew, it was great to be out sketching with a group, the weather just added to the fun. Sorry I had to leave early. Looking forward to more outings.

I'm glad i went along, really nice to people, shame i didn't get round to everyone.
Matthew was a fine host. I don't think a host should have to introduce himself to everyone in that context, after all, how could he be expectd to recognise everyone from their tiny online photos? Making a sign and being visable is enough, surely its everyone elses obligation to introduce themselves to him. Looking forward to whatever happens next,
    James

...but my aim (guest or host) was to meet some nice people with that added benefit of a mutual creative interest. So I didn't want to plan anything or make any speeches necessarily, but to let people get to know each other in the hope that when we arranged a proper sketchbookers event, everyone knows each other a bit and what its all about. Anyway David, I am sorry and hope you will give 'The Sketchbookers' another chance ;o)

As I discussed with most of you last night, the rough plan for the next meet up was to go somewhere like Castlefield. Local, easy to get to and lots of interesting architectural details, canals, skylines and people to draw...and lots of bars and places to eat close by! I would appreciate any feedback on this idea. Most of you seemed to think that a Sunday afternoon (theres a nice market in Castlefield on Sundays too) would be a good time, perhaps in late January, early February. I'm also happy to do Saturday if anyone else can.

Hope to hear from you all soon!

After reading all these positive comments,I cannnot believe I have just attended the same 'event'!! It must be an 'age' thing? Venue-too noisy to hear anyone unless shouting....Matthew...who?The organiser didn't introduce himself,or anyone else...We were left in corner waiting for something to happen....it didn't,and we left after 1 hour.I obviously had too many expectations, and not enough 'spontaneity'for this Meet-up to work for me.WAS IT JUST ME?...,or would others have welcomed some'input' from someone, too, and a venue with a more relaxed atmosphere.Sorry to appear to be the party pooper, but it was a long journey to little purpose.(Ah,but isn't that LIFE?!)I shall join some Buddists, perhaps.

    Hi all!

Many, many thanks for all of you who came last night and glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves. I loved meeting all of you and woke up with a little bit of a squiffy head this morning!

David, I am really sorry about last night and I was a little sad about your comments. This is the first ever Meet up event I have hosted and in fact, that was the first Meetup I've ever been to. You were right, the venue was not ideal and I know next time to find somewhere more suitable, but I genuinely didn't expect many if anyone to turn up, and to hire a room would have cost me £50! If anything, it demonstrated my reason for creating the group which was to get to know Manchester (and its bars!) a little bit better! I did not actually know that you had come for the event until you had left so sincerest apologies for that. In terms of waiting for something to happen, I am sorry you were disappointed. As I said, I have never done this before and maybe I was a little ambitious hosting my event..

I may not be able to make it after all, been ill this week and not feeling much better. Will try and make it if I can, if not I'll let you know!!

    Hi all!

I've been a bit overwhelmed by the response of this group and meetup. Didn't expect it at all and consequently I'm a little nervous (but excited) about meeting you all! If the numbers keep increasing I think I may have to reserve a table in Trof so that everyone can fit. Oh to hell with it, I'll book the whole place! ;o)

I have a few ideas so far of places where we could go for our first proper meet up but will discuss when I see you. Looking forward to meeting you all soon and being a little blurry-eyed the day after in front of my students. Well, it is nearly Christmas! See you soon, Matt

Sorry, but won't be able to get to Manchester on this night. Will there be any meetings nearer Chester?

    November 16, 2013

    • Matthew W.

Hi Jan. It's a shame you wont be able to come. As this is a brand, spanking new meet-up I have no idea where and when future meet-ups will be but most likely in the manchester/lancashire/cheshire areas.
