TGIF Happy Hour ... at The Villa Restaurant

Our "Cheers" group will meet at The Villa Restaurant. We will be set up in the room next to the bar and can order off of the Happy Hour or regular menu. If it's nice weather, we might be on the patio.

The Villa has agreed to have separate checks, but it's helpful to have cash available (especially when we have a big group), so do what you can to help out with that.

RSVP if you plan on attending so they can set up the appropriate number of tables and chairs.

I talked to management about parking. There is a gravel parking lot behind the hotel to the right and down the hill a little. If you are comfortable parking there please do. Also parking is allowed alongside the driveway coming in.

I have heard it mentioned that some people would like to see more mingling in the group. That is entirely up to you guys. It's easy. Just get up and move around now and then. Everyone is incredibly friendly.

Have a great week and see you Friday!

There is another possibility, one I am reluctant to mention, but I will anyway. (see comment about diplomatic corps) Some people don't like change, some people resent "outsiders". MAYBE, they feel we will be crowding out their "regulars". Parking being an excuse. Let me emphasize this is just a possibility. Please don't post at length as though this were gospel. But it IS a possibility. If so, there is no solution, and we move on.

I understand The Villa's concerns about parking, and the fact that we are there for Happy Hour, and not dinner. (I didn't make the last one, car in the shop) But our first one, they had nearly as many people in the bar as we had. In fact our waitress was working the bar, as well as serving us! Their menu was very reasonable. My bill for 3 drinks and 2 appetizers was $15.80. My bill for the same thing wed at Central Market was closer to $50. (that's what I paid). Perhaps "the issue" is the number of spaces taken VS the $$ received. Any solutions? What if we each paid , say, $5 cover. They would then be compensated proportionately. More people, more cover, less people (less work) less cover. What do you think of that, or what else can you suggest? I like The Villa.

But it just occurred to me that whats to stop us from going there as 40 individuals? Just curious.

I agree with Michael. If an establishment doesn't want my money, I'd rather find one that does.

Maybe a smaller less commercial rest who needs us!

I will be talking to the Villa management to get a better understanding of what happened and to express our frustration, but I had the impression that the decision to not invite us back was based on past history with the group (last year?). From what I saw, I don't think it was that people weren't eating and drinking, but maybe their low prices don't adequately cover their costs. They told me they didn't make enough money off of us and they were concerned about parking. This didn't come from the wait staff, but from management.

We had only planned to go there for a couple more weeks anyway, so I'm not going to spend too much more effort on this one. Watch this site for a new location.

Yeah, the parking situation last week was horrible. I wonder if they got negative comments from some of their regulars. As a group, we take up a lot of parking spaces for a lower return than people ordering full dinners. That was an issue with the Union Hotel, too, where they wanted us to park across the street.

Geez...amazed to hear this....especially since it was only a short term gig through the month of April!

I really enjoyed the happy hour and was impressed with the location. I'm not surprised if this patio is in high demand. I want them to know that because of this group I would never have heard of the restaurant (or found it) and now that I have been there I would have liked to go there for dinner. However, since I heard that they don't want us to come back, I don't feel like going back as a dinner guest. Also, when I left the two people at the door didn't even say thank you. The host and hostess should always say thank you to their customers when they leave. Instead of complaining about the lack of business they could have special pricing for large groups such as ours. There could have been a better way for them to handle this.

Sorry to the person that got turned away being told it was canceled. There was a mix-up between an old reservation Gloria made and our current reservation.

As many of you have heard, we won't be going back. As soon as I figure out what to do next week, I'll post it on the site, so look for it here.

Last week I asked Michelle, the waitress if she was happy with the group and she said yes and gave me a big hug.

I wasn't finished. Not to step on anyone's toes, but if you come to a happy hour, you should be prepared to spend money. If you are on a budget, perhaps you should stick to the hikes and such. That being said, it seems like we do order plenty of food and drinks. Does anyone know the total from either week?

I really liked the Villa. The drinks and food were priced very low and the view was awesome. I also, don't understand why they are not letting us continue to come there. It doesn't make sense.

Loved the get together but very disappointed with the attitude of the Villa management. Don't understand the reasoning of giving us the boot!
