Fun with Arduino and JavaScript

Hailing from Tuolumne County, Richard Call will be presenting Fun with Arduino and JavaScript.

You can explore the world of hardware hacking without being an electrical engineer, starting with whichever programming language you already know. At this meetup you’ll get a brief introduction to Arduino, the open source hardware development platform. You’ll see some of Arduino’s development environment, which can be used to compile code and send programs to the Arduino firmware. In our main example, we’ll tell the Arduino to listen for serial communication, then we can control an LED light array in real time from a computer. Even though JavaScript is rarely associated with hardware, the computer’s serial port will be managed by Node.js, so we can use JavaScript to create an LED light show.

Good thing arduino is a masculine noun. Richarduina might lead to an awkward situation.

I had fun too. I'm glad this group is around to make me learn stuff. You can say you'll give a talk AND THEN learn how to do what you are going to talk about.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
