Thanks everyone! I live in Toronto so it's hard to get there, but I'll keep looking. I'm surprised they're around so early!

I just came back from the area in California where they grow them (and artichoke, avocado, and strawberry) and the drought is pretty bad. All the plants are stressed and the blooms are coming early or not at all, unfortunately.

You can get shochu at some Krogers, Hiller's, and liquor stores.

    May 9, 2014

    • Tom

ONe World Market has it. Suzume is the brand, in a frosted bottle. And there's a liquor store just west of there that had it two years ago - they had the kind in the squared off bottle with red and black letters. that has it.

If you can't find it, just use any decent Vodka, like Skyy.

Has anyone been able to locate any shochu? I can't seem to find any anywhere (8 liquor stores, 2 meijers, 2 specialty liquor stores).

    May 17, 2014

    • Minami

We just bought some shochu at hillers on 14 mile and haggerty. They have a lot and couple different brands. It is on the island in front of the seafood counter.. not in the liqueor section

    • Jenn

Yeah, someone else just told me they found some there. Not sure why they said otherwise when I called yesterday.

Are we able to make ume juice? The non alcohol version?

    May 17, 2014

  • Heidi

Since shochu seems to be really hard to find, could you please let me know if we are able to make the non alcohol version?

I always wondered, what is equivalent to ホワイトリカー? Vodka is basically the same? The last time we made アンズ酒 and 梅酒 we bought a few liters of white liquor in Japan and carried it all the way back here.
