Since 1992, the South Windsor Jaycees have been bringing young people together to make a difference not only in the community, but also in the lives of their members. Our goal is to teach leadership skills through community service. The chapter coordinates a wide variety of events throughout the year to meet the needs of both the community and our members.
Community Service – Helping those in need is a key element in the Jaycees program. Whether it’s the elderly, disadvantaged or handicapped we work to make a difference in their lives. Projects, such as Thanksgiving Baskets, Winter Clothing Drive and Adopt-A-Family are all designed to make the holidays a little bit brighter for everyone.
Fundraising – Almost $10,000 is donated annually to various local, state, national and international charities. One of our more popular fundraising projects is Paws in the Park. Since 2006 over $4,000 was raised for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation. Other fundraisers have supported Teen Center, Car Seat Safety Program, Hole in the Wall Gang, American Cancer Society, and many more worthy local, state and national charities.
Youth – With so many families in the chapter and community we strive to bring fun attractions to the community at no cost. Hundreds of kids each year take part in events like Breakfast/ W Bunny, Pepsi Pitch, Hit & Run, Santa Letters & Breakfast W/Santa.
Socials – Making new friends is one of the greatest benefits from being a part of the Jaycees. Every month members get together for billiards, bowling, picnics or dinner socials to places like Poncho Loco, Braza, Lotus and more. Best of all, the chapter offers discounts to their members.
Self-Improvement – Learning new skills is one of the most fun aspects of our organization. Self-defense, candy making, investing, health and fitness, culinary classes and more are all areas that the chapter brings in professionals to share their expertise with us.
Wapping Fair – The annual Wapping Fair has been coordinated by the Jaycees since 2001. The fair includes carnival rides, bands, magicians, fireworks, tractor pulls, animals and much more! Taking 12 months to plan the fair draws over 25,000 people each year and brings together the South Windsor community. Please visit Wapping Fair for more information
