Typesetting for the Web

Purple Pen Productions is proud to sponsor

Typesetting for the Web
by Zeke Franco

Zeke will cover the fundamentals of the art of typography and then will cover some ways to implement beautiful typography on your WordPress blog.

Typography is important because presentation is important. Good typography can reinforce the meaning of your text, can help move your reader beyond your words deeper into your meaning. Your site visitors need to be able to understand the message you're communicating - if your text is too small, too large, or cramped together, your visitors will have difficulty reading.

Typography on the web has mostly been confined to a small set of web-safe fonts, but now that has changed. Learn to take advantage of all the latest technologies and take your site to the next level.

Zeke is an interaction designer and Front End Developer. He specializes in UX desgin, semantic HTML, CSS, jQuery, and web strategy. Basically - he designs, simplifies, and builds the user interfaces of web sites.

Zeke's presentation will be followed by a Q&A.

A $5 fee/person helps to cover the costs of the venue rental, food and drink. If you're paying cash the evening of the event, exact change is much appreciated. Make checks payable to Purple Pen Productions.

Please note location has been changed. The last email I got for this meetup was August 7th and at that time the location was different.

Can you please confirm the ending time? I am going to attempt to race over from another meeting to catch the end of this. I believe SM Library has a 9PM limit?

We ran a little short on time. If anyone had any questions that I wasn't able to get to please let me know. You tweet me @quasarkitten or email me: quasarkitten@gmail.com. I know a few of you wanted me to take a glance at your site. Feel free to send me a link with a specific question.

Very information and interesting. Really got me thinking about my type/font choices and how to approach choosing and using them appropriately.

Excellent presentation by Zeke. Well thought out. Great Keynote slides. Bravo. I also got some wordpress tips on theme frameworks that is currently top of mind for me.

It was probably fine for others, but it was too fundamental for me (I have a print design education including type). I was expecting it would cover how to apply type on websites and manage/manipulate it in Wordpress and CSS. It was apparent from his intro he wasn't going to go there.

It was a good overview of the basics of Typography. The CSS tips on leading were helpful. I also learned couple of new things about using specialty web fonts. Thanks.

good speaker, my first "Meet Up" and I enjoyed it. Not particularly applicable to me, but that's only because I'm such a rookie!!! No reflection at all on topic/speaker.
