We're doing something special for October. Paul has allowed us to have a Cthulhu LIVE game, which is a live-action Call of Cthulhu game. I'll be running this from 6 to 10, and we'll have another game (hopefully Halloween themed) from 12-4.

Cthulhu Live is a live action RPG. Which means we'll be in costumes, and the rooms of the shop will be made up as scenes in the game. We'll explore the shop, study clues, and perhaps come face to face with some of the horrors Man Was Not Meant To Know. I picture it as being halfway between a roleplaying game and a haunted house. The rules are very simple, and this should be a great time.

Because of the need for costumes, I'll need to have a character idea for you so I can have something to match your costume. If you come dressed as a snooty professor I don't want to give you a railroad worker. I'll largely base the game on the characters I get, so just shoot me something reasonably Cthulhuish. The game will be set in the 1920s, and typical investigators would include reporters, detectives, spiritualists, college professors, explorers, and so on. Any person from the 1920s that might have an inclination to investigate the unknown is a good candidate. Those who played in my Call of Cthulhu campaign are free to reprise their roles for this game.

Costumes can be pretty simple. For men, most people wore slacks and button up shirts, if you have a Derby or Fedora that would be a nice touch. Jeans and boots were worn, but generally only by lower class laborers. For women, long dresses or skirts are the norm, or a shorter skirt if you're going for the 'flapper' look. Fanciful hats were popular as well. In any case, a trip to Good Will can help fill out a costume without breaking the bank.

Feel free to bring props as well, some cheap toys can work wonders. But mostly we'll be going for theatrical minimalism, with props used as spice for the imagination.

I hope we get a great turnout, and I might nominate some of you to be 'anti-characters', those who are secretly working toward some nefarious end.

Thanks!

In honor of both Talk Like a Pirate Day, and Dungeons & Dragons Game Day I will be running a D&D game with pirate PCs!

The PCs are a band of merry pirates who have been raiding looting the merchant ships of Drakko Bay for several years. They have grown skilled, powerful and merciless. The previous baron allowed the PC's to operate unchecked, that is, as long as they cut him in on the loot. However, last week a huge dragon descended on the barony, killed the baron, most of his elite guard and made off with his infant son as well as loads of treasure, including the family sword.
The new baron, appointed by the prince has asked to see you and promised you amnesty for the duration of the meeting...you know where this is leading don't you?

Don't fall overboard or you will be squirted! Dressing like a pirate will earn you rewards, and pirate talk is encouraged!

Arrr, thar be dragons off the port bow!!

While Maddman and Shellbelle are away at GenCon I thought I would organize a meetup for those of us stuck at home. Saturday August 15th at Mecca Games.

So the game will be the Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition module Scepter Tower of Spellgard, run by Andrew 2.0.
At the height of Netheril's power, the fortress of Spellgard held many great secrets of the Empire of Magic. Now only ruins remain...and one last guardian, the near-mythical Lady Saharel, whose prophetic visions draw the desperate and the doomed from across Faerun. But a dark presence in one of the Spellgard's intact towers wants to control the power of prophecy for itself and remake the future in its own image.

I will be canceling the late game. Sorry. Something has come up and I can't get out of it.
If someone else wishes to run a game at the 6-10pm time slot then please ask.

This Saturday was a huge success. Fun was had by all, and we got to game with some new folks. Everyone got to compare OD&D with 4e, and my conclusion anyway was 'D&D is fun!'

Anyway, something different this month. I'll be putting out a call to all our GMs to see what they might run, then figure out who is running which game. If we get enough, we could do four games - so RSVP yes and tell your friends!

This is our first Saturday meetup. I'm hoping to get more people out, and turn it from a monthly 'game and greet' into more of a mini-con. There will be at least two games going on and more stuff on the side. So come by the message boards and we'll talk about what we're doing, what people are running, and so on.

Hope to see you all there!

This is an idea Troy sent me, and I thought I'd try it. This isn't a gaming get together, but a meet and greet. We can meet up, have some drinks and food, tell old gamer stories and get to know each other a little better. If it works out I might do one of these a month as well, alternating between gaming and social meetups. Hope to see you all there!

We've got a good core of people, I'd like to expand it to turn the meetups into more of an event. So here's what I'm thinking.

- We'll provide some food for everyone who RSVPs.
- Talk with people about what kind of gaming they're doing, what they're looking for.
- Talk about what we can do to help grow the meetup group.
- Discuss activities we could plan other than play a one-shot RPG game.

From there, we'll start the scheduled one-shot RPG game as usual. Everyone is welcome to come and watch, or bring some card games in case we get too many for one game. Hey, I'm always hopeful!

Anyway, I hope to see everyone there on Thursday the 21st!
