JESSE WILLESEEʼS
FLASH/MOB
SIX HOTEL ROOMS
SIX PARTIES
SIX LIVE FASHION SHOOTS
YOU TAKE THE PICTURES!

On April 4, Sydneyʼs most exciting artist is back with another
spectacular event which mashes-up art, fashion and
photography with one a hell of a party!

Behold Jesse Willeseeʼs latest venture, FLASH/MOB!

Check out the trailer: http://youtu.be/tAxSjZ7UYGg

Six hotel rooms at the iconic Beach Road Hotel in Bondi will come
alive with six party-themed photo shoots. Each room will feature
several models enacting a crazy scene of party chaos. Hundreds of
photographers – from professionals to amateurs carrying iPhones - will
be invited to walk room to room shooting the professionally-lit scenes
within.

Anyone with a camera has the chance to shoot models live with
professional lighting and create exciting high-fashion, editorial images to
use as they please!

And these arenʼt every day fashion shoots! From ravers having a hell of
a comedown, to bikini-clad revelers in bathtubs and a teenage bedroom
straight of the ʻ90s, these every day hotel rooms will be transformed into
living exhibits for your shooting pleasure.

Cue a “flashmob” of photographers, models and punters in a paparazzi
style snapping frenzy!

The show is an extension of Jesse Willeseeʼs Seven Hundred Photos
series. Check out last yearʼs event:

http://vimeo.com/45068498

This year, fashion mecca Estate of Mind will be providing street fashion
from their amazing roster of designers, and Hong Kong label Suck Is
Free will be bringing the crazy with post-modern couture.

PLUS! Bands Buzz Kull, Whipped Cream Chargers and Will and the
Indians will provide an indie soundtrack while DJs Andy+Mike will blow
up some tunes.

BEST OF ALL we are running a competition on the night - best photo and best Instagram photo win an Olloclip three-in-one wide angle, fisheye and macro photo lens for iPhone and more!

All this for $10 measly bucks
– and you get a free Rekorderlig cider on entry!

Congrats to Jesse Willesee, Marta & the crew for putting on another fun & exciting night. If the truth be told there's very few events around that compare to Jesse's gigs in terms of providing photographers with such a varied feast of opportunities. Having said that I don't think Beach Rd Hotel is as good a venue as the King's Cross Hotel. Too cramped (like the Darlo Bar). The installations in the rooms were creative with lots of effort put into the details but kinda similar - not quite as much variety as in previous events. I thought the music was pretty cool - Will & the Indians are a talented young band who belted out some energetic Britpop-styled tunes. Buzz Kull on the other hand played some deliciously dark & moody electronica. The DJ's spun some good tunes as well. So all up another winner with plenty of subject matter for the 'shooters' who braved the fairly crappy weather.

hi there glad you enjoyed it! The original concept for the show was always staging the events in hotel rooms - they provide an extra dimension of interest for the photos and add to the originality of the event, which is both a photography event and a live art installation. They also provide a ready-made set, with empty spaces there is much more staging involved and that's not always possible budget wise, though we do our best! We've had to look for other spaces as the event has grown in popularity - which is great! - meaning there are more people to fit in than ever before. We'll be trying all sorts of spaces as they become available to us - provided they'll host us and our crazy, messy show, ha ha!

We enjoyed the Kings Cross Hotel too and we'll be hosting another event there in October. The installations in this event were all staged and styled by Jesse set to a "party" theme and were the truest example of his vision yet. We were really proud to be able to finally have the resources to have Jesse style all six spaces as he has always dreamed. We have previously done more group shows, inviting others to stage the spaces as well as Jesse. That will still be happening for some of the larger events like Kings Cross hotel. Hope to see you there! Cheers

Enjoyed the event brillant concept the rooms were too small for the amount of people and got very hot

Thanks for coming Jim! The show does get a little hot! We have been holding it different spaces as they become available and we always try and get as much space as we can - the Darlo bar was even smaller! You may enjoy our show at the Kings Cross Hotel in October which is VERY roomy. See you there!

I dont know how best to word this but here goes, lets see if I have this concept correct. Six Hotel rooms with different mock parties, played out by models.
    Now for the fuzzy part:-
    Lit by Studio lighting?
Do a group of photographers go in at a time or is it a free for all (Kaos type arrangement).
With the lighting setups do we need to bring our flash equipment? (I am thinking not).
Sorry for all the late questions,
    Jim Merchant

Great answer Brent, as a veteran of these events you know your stuff! Hehe. We don't expect these spaces to be as crowded as the last hotel room show, there is more room than usual at this venue. Cheers!

Hi guys, just a bit of tips for the madness of Flash/Mob, it is $10 to get in. That money goes to the organisers of the event and not the Photo Meetup group. It can be very crowded and hot but that is part of the fun! Expect the unexpected be patient and polite sometimes the rooms can be extremely packed. Ask the models to pose they are more than willing and appreciate constructive, direct suggestions. Vary you camera ISO settings, shutter speeds and flash settings go with the flow and you will get some amazing results. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions.
    Cheers Brent.

    • Marta J.

hi there! If you get the energy the photography part of the show runs from 7pm to 10pm. It's not a flashmob exactly (though it can look like one when everyone starts shooting!) but it is a group photography event where you can photograph models live x
