The Movie: The Big Clock (Silver Spring) Special Meetup

As a special follow-up to our September 19th meetup, those interested in seeing the movie, The Big Clock (1948), can gather in front of the box office at the AFI SilverTheater on Wednesday, October 23rd.  The movie, playing as part of the AFI Silver's Noir City DC film noir festival, starts at 7:00 p.m.  We will enter the theater promptly at 6:45 p.m. sharp.  After the movie ends, we will walk to the Quarry House for a beer.

The editor of America's most popular true-crime magazine (Ray Milland) finds himself framed for murder after tangling with his tyrannical Rupert Murdoch-like publisher, played with sinister relish by Charles Laughton. Said to be one of the greatest suspense films of all time, based on the famed novel by Kenneth Fearing. (Directed by John Farrow.  Script by Jonathan Latimer, from the novel by Kenneth Fearing.  B&w, 95 min, 35mm. NOT RATED)

Those who did not read the book but still want to see the movie are welcome.http://youtu.be/Mqvusa_C6p0

Any movie where I laugh at exactly the wrong place is worth it.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it. I'm not feeling well. If I don't see you all tonight, I'll see you in November or December. Have fun!

Yeah, I'm not coming. I want to, but I just don't feel well. Enjoy the movie. :)

Timing's a little tight for me, so if I don't quite make it, I'll see ya'll inside.

This was re-made in 1987 as "No Way Out", with Kevin Costner, Sean Young, Gene Hackman, and Will Patton, also an outstanding film, which added a quite unexpected twist at the end.

Harry Morgan certainly makes for one memorable short scary silent thug in this film, and, of course, Elsa Lanchester, Maureen O'Sullivan, George Macready, Ray Milland, and Charles Laughton are worth watching, as well.
