As a special follow-up to our March 20th meetup, those interested in seeing the movie, Madame Bovary (1949), can meet at a private residence in University Park on Wednesday, March 26th 6:30 p.m.  The movie will start at 7:00.  It runs 106 minutes.  It stars Jennifer Jones, James Mason, Van Heflin, and Louis Jourdan.  It was directed by Vincente Minnelli.

On trial for writing an indecent novel, French author Gustave Flaubert (James Mason) must prove that his book Madame Bovary is a moral story.  Flaubert narrates this story within a story about unhappy Emma Bovary (Jennifer Jones), who seeks love outside a stifling marriage.  The affairs at first bring excitement, but Flaubert's heated tale makes clear that Bovary's adulterous choices will destroy her family.

This meetup is the next in a series we have been doing where we meet after discussing the book, and we watch the film version and point out all the ways it is different from the book and critique the success of the adaptation.  Past meetups have been great fun so far.  So here's another go at it!

If you have not read the book but you want to see the film anyway, you are most welcome to join us!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
