Because of the great variety of Buddhist traditions currently practiced (Tibetan, Tantric, Zen, etc) there is some confusion as to the basic tenets which Siddatha Gotama (563 BC – 480 BC) the Buddha himself taught to the order of monks, nuns and laity in Northern India for 45 years after his enlightenment.
BASIC BUDDHISM presents these concepts directly from the canonical discourses (suttas) of the Buddha as derived from the oldest extant Sinahalese manuscripts. We review the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, annica (impermanence), annata (non-self), silas (moralities), samadhi (concentration), vipassana (insight), dhamma (doctrine) and nibbana (extinction).
Etan Boritzer is a yoga/meditation teacher in Santa Monica who has studied Eastern philosophy, practiced yoga & meditation since 1968 with teachers in India, Japan and the US. He also is the best selling children’s book author of "What Is God?" and 9 other titles, published in 12 languages.
This popular and informative talk has been presented previously by Etan at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore, Mystic Journey Bookstore, Hill Street Center, On the Path Gallery and Power Yoga.
