Picnic in Oregon

Join us for a picnic in the park.

Arrive early as you like, we will eat at 2 pm

Bring a vegan dish, totally plant-based, so everyone can taste, enough to serve at least 8 adults, and your own drinks and table service. Please consider using whole grain pasta, brown rice, etc, in your dishes, same for buns and breads.

There are grills if anyone wants to heat boca burgers or smart dogs.

It's a park, so bring Frisbees, volley balls, what ever you think is fun. Here's a link to the Tennis Court Shelter   Parking Lot 5 is closest.

http://www.metroparkstoledo.com/metro/parksandplaces/index.asp?page_id=486

Park guidelines are posted on the page that should answer most questions. If not, you can always contact the park.

I have not been to this park yet myself, but it looks wonderful and like it should be much fun.

For those of you more used to attending meetups at restaurants, don't let the bringing of a dish deter you. It doesn't have to be fancy. Salads are always welcomed, and it's pretty easy to put together a pasta salad or chop up some fruit. Or, you could always buy some fruit salad from a grocery store deli. You could also bring a cut up melon,  a couple of pounds of tabbouleh, easy stuff like that.

No heavy perfumes, colognes, aftershave, etc  they can aggravate asthma and trigger migraines. Let's save our senses of smell and taste for the food.

Thanks to Julie for making this space available. She had rented it for an event with another group, which fell through and she is happy to make it available to us.  This is a free event, however, she is on the hook for $80 to secure the reservation. Please consider kicking in some money to her, to help defray her cost on this shelter, if you are able and so inclined.

I plan to hang around after the picnic and see what else the park has to offer.  It will be a Saturday night, so if anyone has any ideas for activities for after, live music, etc, please share those with the group.

As ever, please feel free to suggest other meetup opportunities, especially picnic type stuff while it's still warm!

Peace,

Don

    Julie,
Thanks for organizing this for us. Nice to meet your boys.
We were there for about 3 and 1/2 hours this afternoon. Lots of delicious food, company, and conversation.

    Hey guys-
What are we doing for plates? are we bringing our own so we can wash and reuse? Just curious.

Good question Meghan. It would be best if everyone brought his/her own plates, cups, utensils, serving needs, napkins, etc. But in case someone forgets, I will have some plastic ones.

Great thinking!!!! I live right across the street, I can bring some extra real plates for people too if they forget.

Who's getting excited for this on Saturday??? There is a brand new playground for the kiddos, paddleboats and tennis courts right in this area, so bring 'em if you got 'em...

So sad that we are not able to come :( A family event conflicts with the time now. Can we schedule another in the Toledo area soon? If I call and arrange the shelter, is there a date in July that is recommended? Which organizer should I contact, I have met a few of you :-) thanks!

TG: if you will do the leg work, arranging another date or dates, I will be happy to post the info on the site as to dates, pick dates and times that suit you. Be aware there might be a cost to reserve a shelter sometimes, some attendees will chip in on the cost. I hope you go for it. Don

How long will this party be going on? I have to work on Saturday and I'm not for certain what time I will be done. I'd really like to come, I visit Pearson on more than a weekly basis.

no way to tell my experience with vegan potlucks is that they can last two or three hours, an hour for the dining and then an hour or two for the hang being as it's a part, this one certainly could go longer. Maybe you could get a cell number from someone attending, and you could call when you could make it?

Perhaps this site would be good for anyone wondering what to bring next week!

Husband and I are doing a 30 day salad challenge and posting a video every day. Let us know if any sound like something you'd us like to bring. We have made two salads so far- a corn and a lentil. Videos are here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnudgsd_Sf1NPK4zbuDfPPA/videos :)

To Peggy: we are doing our second year of the CSA program through Bersee & Utz Heirloom farm in Whitehouse, we loved it! They even offer home delivery (which is a greener option than pick up, really). We recommend it to everyone :-)

We will be coming with kids in tow (toddlers do not really eat so I did not count them, lol). Planning to bring yummy tempeh taco filling, with corn chips or soft wraps) and something sweet (to be determined :-).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
