Welcome to The Toronto Philosophy Club!  This is a book club of sorts with a focus on cognitive science, philosophy of mind, philosophy of biology, and philosophy of religion.  Of course, foundational philosophical questions are here as well.  We meet in cozy pubs/restaurants and have lively, stimulating discussions.  Many of us have some background in academic western philosophy (quite a range), and the conversations hinge on this somewhat.  However, we do open up the table to many interests and backgrounds.  Philosophical types with a sympathy to questions about spirituality/religion are definitely welcome and we occasionally delve into the 'bigger questions' of life.

Our meetings centre upon readings and/or podcasts (think M.I.T. or Oxford lectures)!  There are usually a few themes or questions for the night and we do our best to keep on topic.  (Usually mildly succeeding) : )

Sample questions:

What does evolutionary science do to our sense of meaning?

What is time? Where does the past go?

Personal identity. Do we have a soul?

What is the nature of reality?

What do people mean by spirituality?

Epistemology. Do profound experiences have any information for us about reality? Is this a form of knowledge?
