Why much more gardening needed than usual

Because of the bad weather - droughts, floods, freezes - farmers are having very bad luck. Also there is such plagues as wheat fungus and insect infestations, which can wipe out farm food crops quickly. So, much more gardening is needed than usual. Most people do not realize that.

The average size person eats 2000 pounds of food each year. Multiply that number by the number of people who live in the Triangle area.

I suggest widespread gardening on all available land space - home yards, church yards, school yards, hospital yards, all vacant lots such as the space under the wide power lines. For the winter there is the need for greenhouses, which can be built small, medium, large, extra-large. The ones with the frame and the plastic covering is the least expensive.

Please some members of the group, who live in the Triangle area, be guests on the local television and radio talk shows and news. To better ensure there is enough food this fall and winter, relate that all able bodied adults and teenagers need to participate in gardening. Many of the people, who are not able bodied, should hire someone to plant their gardens.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worse.
