JOIN SUSTAIN-A-BULL & TRANSITION DURHAM ON A JOURNEY TO FIND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY
WITHIN REACH Film Screening Monday, July 29 at 7:00 PM at Motorco Music Hall
JULY 16, 2013 – Join Sustain-a-Bull and Transition Durham & Recyclique on Monday, July 29 at 7:00 PM at Motorco Music Hall for a screening of Within Reach, a documentary produced by Durham-based filmmaker Derek Alan Rowe.
In 2008, Ryan Mlynarczyk and Mandy Creighton set out from the San Francisco Bay area on their bicycles, after giving up their house, jobs and cars, in search of a sustainable life. “Within Reach” explores their pedal-powered search for a place to call home in a sustainable community. Ryan and Mandy were not searching for property in the right neighborhood. They were on a quest for community - the secret ingredient to a sustainable life. Along the way, they explored ecovillages, cohousing communities, co-op houses, communes, transition towns, and their own principles and commitment. In the end they returned to the timeless truth that community is everywhere and you can create a sustainable community right where you are.
Following the film screening, filmmaker Derek Alan Rowe and Amy Campbell, Sustain-a-Bull’s Executive Director, will lead a discussion focusing on how the film’s precepts can be applied here in North Carolina and how Durham’s citizens, non-profit organizations, small businesses, and others can join together to build a stronger, more resilient, and sustainable community right here in our home town.
Motorco Music Hall is located at 723 Rigsbee Avenue in downtown Durham. There will be a $5 suggested donation for attendees at the door, to cover screening costs. For more information about Within Reach, visit www.withinreachmovie.com.
