Hi everyone... Thanks for attending the session on Monday, what a terrific turn out! It was good to see such enthusiastic debate. I would like to let everyone know that my company Oakton is on the lookout for UX talentNOW.

Thanks, Andre, for showing how much goes into designing a usable web form.

Thanks, Dan, for sharing some of my work. If anyone's interested in a deep dive, there's still a few places left in my Visual design for forms workshop at UX Australia (albeit in Sydney): http://uxaustralia.com.au/uxaustralia-2014/visual-design-for-forms. I also tweet a lot about forms: @formulate.

    Hi all,

If last night's Meetup sparked your interest in good form design, here are some great forms resources:

A bunch of great articles by our own Meetup member, Jessica Enders of Formulate:

    http://formulate.com.au/articles/
    http://www.sitepoint.com/author/jessenders/
    http://alistapart.com/author/jessicaenders

'Forms that work: Designing web forms for usability' (book and website with heaps of great links) by Caroline Jarrett and Melbourne's own Gerry Gaffney:

    http://www.formsthatwork.com/

'Doing the hard work to make things simple' - UK Government Digital Service blog (this is brilliant case study on simplying form design and using plain language):

    https://gds.blog.gov.uk/2014/07/28/doing-the-hard-work-to-make-things-simple/

In fact, the Government Digital Service blogs are a goldmine of UX research in action:

Not eschewing the topic or speaker. Decided not to risk passing on my resurgent cold or whatever it is.

Looking forward to Andre's presentation. I thought I'd share this field label UI pattern for discussion as it's on topic: http://blog.circleci.com/adaptive-placeholders/
I'm career transitioning into UX - looking forward to meeting pros in the industry for a chat. Say hi!

Interesting article - thanks for sharing, Dan. I think there are certainly more ways it can be done wrong than right so perhaps the general rule is to avoid it. My pet peeve is disappearing labels.

Obviously designs fail (a bit) when a designer assumes something different from a user. Eg. if Dan's post was at CCHS I would know who Luke W. is. Here I don't. (Same with "CCHS" but search engineering might work there. Point is a prominent member is a Luke W.)
