Abstract:
Currently leading the development of Worio (www.worio.com), a Web discovery engine, Ali Davar will share his work developing its semantic technology and his thoughts on the future of semantic search.
Bio:
Ali Davar is the CEO of Worio, a Vancouver based startup that is creating a new category of personalized Web search: discovery. While attending law school at the University of British Columbia, Ali founded Worio in 2005. Ali has built and led a group of five full-time and five part-time employees comprised of students and researchers from the Laboratory for Computational Intelligence (LCI) at the University of British Columbia. Additionally, under the direction of Ali, Worio has obtained $2 million in Angel funding along with grants from Canada’s National Research Council and PRECARN. Ali holds a LLD from the University of British Columbia and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
Access to the room:
The doors of the institute will be locked at 5pm. I will be waiting by the front doors, between 5.45 and 5.55, to grant you access. If you need to enter later on, a security guard should be on duty. Ask for the Dorothy Lam Boardroom. (Enter the building and turn right. The boardroom is the second room on your left on the ground floor - there are signs.)
Drinks/dinner:
We will be going for drinks/dinner after the meeting to allow further discussion, in a nearby place.
