Excerpt from the journal of Serendipity
…the battle had been fierce, but at long last we stood triumphant over the hydra’s headless corpse. Wasting no time, several members of our party began to search the room. The investigation inevitably led beyond the hydra’s lair, and Mercada chanced upon a door she could not open. Quortex, ever the gentlemen, was much obliged to unlock the door and step inside. The door revealed two rooms containing one mirror each – as the Cleric and Mercada studied one mirror, Quortex disappeared while standing in front of the other.
Meanwhile, Tower shadowed my movements along the far hall. After discovering two rooms filled with eerie statues, our thoughts ultimately turned to tales of medusas. While Tower seemed content to relay his suspicions to the rest of our party, I ventured further down the hall to “keep a look out”. Unfortunately, fate called my bluff as I saw a hooded figure dart through another passage towards the party. I had no sooner returned to warn them than the hooded figure burst through the door and faced down my companions.
She was indeed a medusa, and no less than five of my associates were caught in her deadly gaze. Thankfully, her turned back proved an easy target, and I quickly lit her ablaze. While several of my companions shook off the medusa’s glair, the Shifter Paladin was soon turned to stone. The medusa quickly darted back the way she came, and Tower blocked the door she entered. As he did so, another medusa appeared further down the hall and also attempted to petrify us. The battle continued like this for some time, but medusas are no match for the spell-fire of Turathi Highborn such as I.
After both medusas lay smoldering in their own ichor, we began the process of de-petrifying the Paladin. The Cleric had discovered a ritual he believed would be useful, but Kord would not heed his prayers. Thus we turned to the blasphemous faith of the Genasi, who was successful in de-petrifying the Paladin and a halfling scout named Rand. Though I had initially intended for Rand to serve as a pack-mule before I sold him, he quickly found favor amongst the group and convinced us to take him on as a partner… Pity.
We continued down the hall, and eventually came across a thick sheet that obstructed our view. A few of my associates peered past the veil, and saw that the Shifter Ranger (who had disappeared earlier) lay petrified a few yards in. So I ventured past curtain, but was soon magically transported somewhere else. For now I wait with the petrified Quortex, the Genasi, and my fellow tiefling, ever vigilant against the void.
