1E/2E AD&D: Greyhawk Campaign

  • Our heroes make their way down the cast iron ladder and into the lowest level of the watch tower.  They explore several rooms filled with the remains of a one weird and disturbing society.  As the party explores the vacant areas they eventually realize that a tunnel has been dug through the center of these rooms.  As they search for the tomb they come to a sealed room.  This room has been walled shut, and carved in the wall at the end of the corridor reads, "Ralsa.  Keep Out.  Do Not Open 'til Ragnarok!"  Of course, they had to open it.  All that was found within the room was a frog...  The frog escaped their attempts to catch it, and after several additional attempts to slay the frog, he attacks the female Ranger (Liz) and escapes again.

    Tracking the frog in the direction of the tomb the party is in hot pursuit.  They walk over 1,000 ft and come to a clouded passageway.  They move forward and a magic mouth screams "Intruders!"  Then the party realizes they are back inside he tomb.  Instantly they are surrounded by undead.  The undead are turned and the party moves into the tomb to explore further and complete their mission of "cleansing" the tomb.  From the far wall rises a creature from the earth.  It is a 16HD Earth Elemental!  Some of the party open graves to eliminate any undead while others attack the hulking beast.  As attacks bounce off this creature (+2 weapon or better to hit) others are landed as critical hits and prove to be the difference between winning or death.

    After besting the undead and the elemental, a mummy enters the room.  Frozen with fright, the Paladin becomes ineffective.  As the others ready themselves against this new and horrific creature, the new Dwarven Fighter/Mage (NPC) sees this creature for what it is, an illusion!  This rallies the party and frees the Paladin.  Removing yet another major threat the party continues to explore.

    Then the remaining undead boss appears.  This is Jeshonta, a century-dead Mage who still practices magic at the 12th level.  As he appears the party wins initiative.  They lay down a barrage of attacks and inflict severe damage.  Jeshonta has no choice but to cast mirror image as a defense and creates four images of himself.  Trying to prepare for an assault on the party he is hit by the Dwarven Fighter/Mage and then the final blow is received.  He is dead.

    As the undead return, and heroes are gathering treasure the battle with these lessor undead is quick and uneventful.  Our heroes are victorious!  They gather as much treasure as possible and move forward to cleanse the remaining areas of the tomb.

    In summary, our heroes bested everything thrown at them.  They scored critical hits that made a difference and they made few if any mistakes.  This was a great noght for our heroes as they did everything right!
