1E/2E AD&D: Greyhawk Campaign

Our heroes spent the evening and next day recovering from their wounds and preparing to trek deeper into the Dim forest in search of the Shrine of Ehlonna.  They are met by two Brownies and escorted north toward the shrine.  They are met by Ehlonna herself and a small band of warriors.  She asks for their assistance, warns them of certain dangers, and cautions them not to trust what their eyes see.

As the party marches north toward the shrine they are harassed by a small band of Harpy.  Several arrows and sling bullets hit as these foul creatures fly away leaving insults and threats as their only attack.

As our heroes reach the shrine, they find that the path ends across a bridge and at a fortress wall with large double doors.  Looking ever so briefly, our heroes see no signs of enemy or risk about.  They send the elven fighter/thief (Danielle) in front to check the doors for traps.  As soon as she touches the doors they disappear along with the walls and a forked lightning bolt strikes the party with the exception of the female ranger (Liz) and half-orc fighter (Chris) who are standing at the right-hand side of the party.  The lightning bolt does 36 hit points of damage (save for 1/2).

As our heroes assess the situation a new terror rises out of the stream that runs under the bridge...  A shambling mound!

As or heroes prepare for battle at two flanks they notice that the lightning bolt had killed both the human ranger (Jeremy) and the elven druid/mage (Julian).  With two party members dead, a shambling mound attacking the right flank, and a creature well over 120 ft in front of them upon what now appears to be the shrine of Ahlonna, our heroes win initiative and return fire.

Just as soon as they rally, four harpy join in the fray.  Our heroes move as they find spells fall short of what appears to be a Lich within the shrine.  Movement in multiple directions only adds to the confusion as a massmorph spell hides 10 zombies on the right and 21 skeletons on the left.

As the damage mounts against our heroes, critical fails plague them as well.  However, the shambling mound falls to a critical fail twice and is easily hit as it lay prone on the ground.  Then champions emerge as the higher-level characters break from formation and charge the shrine.  The dwarven fighter/cleric (Gary) protected by his prayer and protection from evil spells charges the Lich.  The druid (Ian) goes up the left flank and the elven mage/thief (Steven) takes the right flank.  Harassed by zombies and skeletons their assault is delayed.

As the Lich unleashes magic missile, ice storm, and defensive spells like mirror image, our heroes draw within range to use their spells like entangle, silence 15'ft radius, magic missile, and others.  Then the tide begins to turn.  The dwarven fighter/cleric (Gary) uses his skills to destroy the skeletons at will, and the Paladin turns the zombies.  Then the shambling mound falls to a final hit, and the Lich takes to flight.  As he rises above the party, a final magic missile spell from the half-elf mage/thief (Steven) ends the reign of terror and returns the shrine to the control of Ehlonna and her worshipers.

Pleased with their sacrifices our heroes are allowed to keep all the treasure found including, but not limited to a potion of healing, +1 cloak of protection, +2 small wooden shield, rope of climbing, +3 leather armor, phylachtory of long years, gems, jewelry, and coins.

As our heroes gather their booty, Ehlonna rewards her trusted worshipers the elven druid (Ian) with a +4 staff of the woodlands, and his 2nd ed. druid skills and new spell abilities.  He is also now known as "The Protector of Dim".

Then she rewards the bravery and loyalty of the female ranger (Liz) with bracers of archery and a special gift from a fallen unicorn, a horn of the unicorn.  The female ranger is also now known as "of Dim".

As the clean up of the carnage that was unleashed by the evils that took the shrine from the worshipers of Ehlonna begins, our heroes rest safely under the protection of this deity and her followers.  They study new spells, heal, repair their weapons and armor, and gain vast amounts of experience.  During his studies, the half-elven mage/thief (Steven) learns of a tower of his chosen deity Boccob far north of the Keep.  This possible adventure along with several others might be their next act.  As they prepare plans a 3rd level halfling thief (Julian), and a 2nd level human cleric (Mario) join our heroes as they look to find experience and treasures within the world of Greyhawk.

See you all Tuesday night, and then we will return to our regular Thursday evening meet up.

We have an amazing group of dedicated players. It is too bad that the DM has to kill them off occasionally.

If you are planning to attended GsryCon VI in March the pre-registration is open. Google garycon 2014 and set up an account. I am purchasing the Platinum package. It should cover everything. This package will not last forever.
