Our heroes leave the safety of the Dim forest and make camp. That night the party is attacked by three two-headed trolls!
These 10 hit dice creatures are pure evil and get four attacks per round. The party is holding their own although taking damage each round. Critical fails by these creatures assists the party with dispatching them safely. However, as fate would have it the third and final troll rolls a critical hit on the 6th level Paladin (Tom) removing his throat instantly killing the holy warrior. The party rallies to destroy the trolls and healers run to the aid of the fallen hero. With some DM intervention, the 6th level Fighter/Cleric (Gary) goes into action. He ignites a magical candle instantly elevating him to 8th level and two steps closer to his chosen deity Odin. He casts a series of spells to enhance his chances (Prayer +5%, Bless +1, Divination for direct conversation with Odin, and Chants to add yet another +1 to whatever role is needed.) The Chant goes on for 1 hour and 45 mins when Odin finally hears the plea for help. Odin responds with a favorable reaction adjustment and resurrects his fallen protector of the church.
With the party healed and making it safely though the remainder of the night, they reenter the Dim forest and move eastward toward their path back to Thunderhold. They get to the eastern part of the Dim forest and encounter five Wyverns.
This distant cousin of dragons is not an easy prey. Although not very intelligent, they are extremely aggressive. With a deadly bite causing 2-16 hit points of damage, they also attack with their poisoned tail. The battle rages as bites and stings land regularly. Failing a save, the lead Ranger (Scott) is saved from death by a quick thinking druid utilizing neutralize poison, slow poison from the Cleric (Gary) and herbalism skills within 1 round. Again our heroes are victorious!
Making it through the night the party heads southeast toward Thunderhold. Two days into their travels they stumble upon a graveyard. Investigating further they locate an opening beneath the largest headstone and enter. Giant bats are no match for this party. Following the staircase down nearly 100'ft the party enters into a bare chamber. Quickly they are attacked by five huge spiders.
Quickly our heroes react and attack. All attacks missed. Our heroes are confused. The spider respond and hit. Saving throws are made. Our heroes believe this to be some kind of illusion as they take no action round two. More hits and more saving throws are required. Our heroes react and some hit the deadly beasts. Confusion still plagues some party members and others are blocked from entering due to the size of the party. Finally, the party realizes that these spiders phase in and out of the material plane. After dispatching three of them the other two retreat to the safety of their lair.
Our heroes explore further. Locating a concealed door, they look into a huge cavern. Besides what appears to be a peaceful stream and pond they see only larger caverns about 10'ft x 10'ft and decide to check the other hallways before entering.
They move past the staircase ahead of them and move down the last hallway. They open the first door which releases a firie oil trap upon the female Fighter/Thief (Danielle). They see a long hallway which appears to have been disturbed only by their entry. The party moves down to the end of the hallway without going further into the dusty old passage and as the Fighter/Thief (Danielle) picks a lock, the huge oaken door swings open and she is face to face with a 2-headed troll! The female elven Fighter/Thief has the initiative.
This is where we will begin this Thursday!
