1E/2E AD&D: Greyhawk Campaign

Last week our heroes healed their wounds and went deeper into the delve.  It seemed as if every creature from the first level engaged them in their battle.  Rooms were empty and nothing of value was found other than a hidden room containing two chests full of coins.  The Ranger (Scott) finds a hand axe, the Fighter/Thief (Danielle) grabs a bastard sword, and the Elven Fighter/Mage (Julian) picks up what turns out to be a cursed longsword.  Nothing remains within this level of the delve, and in one room, the mere presence of the Dwarven Fighter/Cleric (Gary) illuminates the outline of a secret door.  Opening the door leads down into the darkness below.

Our heroes do the wise thing and rest the night before venturing further.  Regaining their spells, and healing they move deeper into the delve.  Down the secret passage into tunnels that for several hundred years have remained undisturbed.  As they descend the delve they come to a room and make quick work of ten skeletons.  Descending further they encounter a great crack in the earth.

Then the battle begins.  At first the party didn't know why they were taking damage as magic missile spells find their mark.  Then the fireball came!  Then the Ranger (Scott) was charmed and walked off the ledge taking 17 points of damage from a 60' ft. fall (luck was his this day!).  Back and forth the battle raged with a Spirit Naga.  Using an ore cart as a shield and using range spells to her advantage, the Naga proves a formidable opponent.  However, our heroes prevail.  One would have thought that the Naga herself would have proved to be the greater obstacle, but the 10' ft wide and 60' ft deep chasm proves more troubling.  As the ranger (Scott) exits the chasm, the Ranger (Liz) decides to try and run, jump, grab a rope, and manage her way across.  Unfortuantly she is wearing armor and is encumbered.  She falls.  The Elven Fighter/Mage (Julian) tries to climb down to help and slips and falls.  He takes damage enough to take him below zero. After several failed attempts to cross safely, eventually all make it across.

After locating the Naga's treasure they are enamored by the great longsword and its dragon headed pommel.  Several attempt to wield this fine blade and all take damage, but the Elven Fighter/Thief (Danielle) who wields the sword safely.

Quickly the sword demonstrates its will.  With an intelligence + ego that exceeds hers the elven princess feels the power and command of this weapon.  She now leads the party deeper yet into the delve.  She casts aside all other weapons as she needs but one!

As our heroes move quickly down the tunnels they pass through a room and the sword speaks out, "Your not just going to ignore this secret door are you?"  Continuing forward, they move down a hallway as they trigger a trap the party is split.  All but two take damage from the fall.  Utilizing skills and items they make it out of the pit.  The Fighter/Mage (Julian) casts a shrink spell making passage possible through the upright floor separating the party.  Together again, they move deeper still into the Deep Dwarven Delve.

This is where we will begin.  See you all next Thursday!
