As the dynamics of Thursday evening start to change, we find some of our party deciding not to continue the adventure (hopefully this is not the case)... The Elven Fighter/Mage, Dwarven Cleric, Halfling Thief, and Half-Elven Druid, decided to remain in Hommlet and distract any watching eyes while the Drow Fighter/Thief, Human Fighter, Half-Elven Ranger, and newly joined Half-Elven Cleric, Half-Orc Fighter, and Half-Drow Fighter/Cleric/Mage head back to the moathouse.
They make it back safely and return through the secret passage down. They choose the 2nd of two secret doors this time and it opens into a large room. Quickly they are attacked by the Ogre that guards this place! After exchanges in battle the Ranger runs him through with his spear. The party searches a large chest and finds some treasure as their reward. They move into the next room and find two humans and a near dead Gnome prisoner of the Ogre who were soon to be his next meal. The prisoners ask for help returning to safety and promise great rewards! The party assists. The Half-Elven Cleric receives a ring of friendship from the rescued Gnome as they make it back to safety. On the way out, the Human Fighter searches the Ogre's bed one last time and finds a cloak. He gives it to the Female Drow.
It is late when our party bids farewell to the two merchants and Gnome, so they camp within the forest off the main road. 1st watch, nothing. 2nd watch... The Half-Elven Cleric and Female Drow Fighter/Thief hear... BOOM! SNAP! BOOM! CRACK! CRACK! SNAP! ARGHHH! They look up to see an 11+ft giant looking at them and he thinks... FQQD!
The Cleric runs to the right screaming to draw his attention and wake the sleeping party! The Drow quickly draws her bow an fires! Both arrows hit! The hill giant's attention quickly focus' on the Drow and he swings! The giant needs an 11 to hit and he gets a 3! The party wakes. Weapons are drawn and their infravision identifies a huge object and they prepare for attack! The human fighter picks up his halberd, moves to where the creature is (so he thinks... No light source!) and swings. Our party surrounds this giant menace and the Human Fighter using his blind-fighting skills rejoins the battle. The giant swinging a large oak tree hits the Ranger! Our party, amazingly dispatches the hill giant after another miss and with spear, arrows, halberd, and sword!
They return the next day to the moathouse. The party makes its way back to the area where the zombies were (connecting their maps) and soon finds themselves fighting the remaining three zombies. After searching the area the party locates two doors behind a pile of crates, furniture, and rubble. Then a small group of four zombies stumble upon our heros. The Half-Drow Fighter/Cleric/Mage fails to turn them and they attack! The Half-Drow goes down! The remainder of the party lends a hand. One zombie dead. Failing to turn them, the Drow Cleric begins healing. The Human Fighter goes down! The Half-Orc is at 1 hit point! He runs. The Half-Drow Cleric runs to the aid of the Human. The Ranger critically misses and runs his spear through his own neck and goes down! The only thing that saved the Ranger is a pointed weapon. Slashing or blunt weapon would have been his end! The healed Half-Drow goes to assist the fallen Human. Changing his mind quickly he attacks one of the two remaining zombies! Critical fail! Broken elbow, dropped shield, and bleeds to unconsciousness... Then the tide starts to change. One more zombie dies. One left! The Half-Drow Cleric turns him! The remainder of the party has a free attack! The zombie dies. The party, BADLY beaten heals as much as possible, but all survive! This is where we start, a badly beaten party, without healing, in the dungeon of the moathouse, but alive! Now the female Drow can resume her fashion show and asks the Cleric again... "How do I look in this Cloak of Elvenkind?" ;0) Hope to see you all next week!
