When we last met, our heros knew that they did not have much left to explore in this moathouse... They explore the long dark tunnel and carefully look through doorways. The first door, clear. The second door... A guard! The Ranger must react to the soldier in a black cloak with a yellow flaming eye symbol. They draw weapons. The Ranger misses. The guard hits! The party moves into the doorway and the battle is on! Another guard moves up to join. Then another... Then another... In total 18 guards, 3 seargents, the "New Master's" body guard and the New Master! Sleep is cast. Soldiers fall. Weapons hit flesh and soldiers fall. The new master casts hold person and the three lead fighters fail their saving throws. All that remains is the Elven Fighter/Mage/Cleric, the female Drow, and the Drow Cleric to defend again what remains of the enemy. The Drow Cleric casts sticks to snakes. The New Master casts hold person (again) and the female Drow and Drow Cleric are held. All that remains in combat from our party is the Drow F/M/C and three snakes... for 8 rounds! Not knowing the meaning of retreat, our remaining hero scores a critical hit on the New Masters bodyguard. He dies! Then, the battle between the snakes and the Drow with the New Master goes back and forth and our party is released from the spell that binds them! (The New Master rolled a 5 or less on 8 of 10 attacks, and one crit fail!!!) The new master tosses his Staff of the Snake and creates a 25ft Giant Constrictor snake. The party is in full battle. The New Master continues to lose initiative, rolls misses, and is unable to effectively do anything against this party. The luck was nothing short of amazing! Our party of heros wins out and eliminates the New Master. They choose to remain in the dungeon and rest. They retreat to a safe room and are very weakened from battle. In walks a patrol of Gnolls!!! They exchange blows, and in the last Gnoll's dying swing he scores a crit 20. But, that's not all... He then rolls percentage and in front of everyone he roll 100%. Result = Decapitation. The human fighter (Ron) is KIA! Our heros feel it is now time to leave. They meet with the Druid of the Grove on their way back to Hommlet and get some well needed advice; DO NOT GO BACK TO HOMMLET! There is already news of the New Master's death, and Homlett is not safe. Our heros head to the Keep, north along the boarderlands and seek safety. Our heros look different now... The Half-Elven Ranger is now 2nd level. The Drow Cleric is 2nd level, and the Female Drow Fighter/Thief is a 2nd level thief. Next week our party begins their trek of locating the Keep on the Borderlands!
