Hey just a quick note to say I had a great time last night. Such a nice group of people. For all those who RSVP'd but didn't make it, I highly recommend the USSCMC as a beautiful location and super friendly and helpful sailing organization that is welcoming to newcomers. They had, well, a boatload of boats available for the races, and the barbecue after was fun. Great view, beautiful sunset, friendly people, sailling.... what's not to like? I hope you can make it to a meetup there in the future. I know I plan to get back there.

I had a great time with everyone who showed up! Thanks for coming and I look forward to seeing you on the 28th!

Is this group for experienced sailors? If so, I need to change my rsvp.

    August 13, 2013

    • kathy

      is that a joke?

      August 14, 2013

    • JD

No, it isn't. If you don't have experience, you could have =gone on a boat with someone who does. No experience is no big deal! But yes, you should always know how to swim if you go out on a boat. I flipped my boat and soaked my poor passenger... lol

I plan on attending the next one on the 28th.

Sorry Matt ,won t be able to make it .....

Hi Mark... I'm unable to get to that website for some reason. I keep getting those hairy adverstising sites with thousands of"related" links rather than any actual operating website...

    August 13, 2013

    • Michele

ahh... it's www.usscmc.ORG that did the trick!

      August 13, 2013

    • JD

      Okay great! Sorry about that.

f you want to go to this event, please go to the USSCMC web site at www.USSCMC.org to register in advance. Click on Store, Events and then the Meetup.com event. Make sure you select the correct date you want to go.

This does one of two things: 1. it lets you not worry about bringing your wallet and 2. it allows them to accurately guess how many people for whom they need to make accommodations.

If they run out of boats (they do have a LOT of boats), the people who register in advance will have first priority over anyone who shows up without registering.

I noticed several dates in the future are posted. Will a meet-up for the other dates be posted here?

One more thing - if you are hungry, bring a donation because they have a fantastic cookout on the upper deck after the race - hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and beer and the usual fares. I typically throw in a $10 but I think $5 would be fine also.

Hi, are you sure we can take a boat out if we're not racing. Their website says sailing ends at 6:00 p.m. Won't we get in the way?

    August 13, 2013

    • JD

Positive! I have already confirmed it with the executive director before I made this post and he is the one who made the recommendation and set the price. BTW - renting boats there is usually $60 for two hours, $100 per day and a membership is a very very low $395 per year, which allows you to sail any time they are open, as much as you want, without a rental fee!. The reason we can sail until 8 is because it's club racing night.

I have only been a member there for two months but I simply love it there. The people are great, there is always someone around to answer questions (like on the rigging) and the sailing is fantastic. They even have free radios to use to talk to one another or in case of a problem (I think they have 8 or 10 of them total). Still, if you have any questions, please feel free to call them. [masked]

    I cannot do Wednesdays. :(

Race night to the members of this group is $20 per person - that would allow us to use one of the many boats there - for leisure sailing or, if qualified, to participate in the races. You would be allowed to sail for hours and it would be a blast!

I put the beginning time is 5pm, but get there whenever you can. Sailing will be available from 5pm to 8pm and if you want to race or spectate, the racers will be at the starting line at 6pm.

I have been a member there for about two months and I LOVE it. If you are interested in learning more about the center, the web site for the US Sailing Center is www.usscmc.org.

By the way, I am looking for someone to race with me on a Vanguard 420. Any takers?

    August 12, 2013

  • Michele

Definitely looking forward to this. Mark's idea to carpool is a good one... I have can fit 3-4 any sized adults in addition to myself. I'll be leaving from West Palm Beach between 4:30 and 5:00.

Us anyone taking passengers on the boat?

    August 12, 2013

    • JD

There will be plenty of passenger space.

      August 12, 2013

  • Roshan S.

I can make Wednesday at 5:00. I don't know how to confirm a spot?

    August 12, 2013

    • JD

In the upper-right-hand corner, Make sure "Yes" is checked, enter the number of people that are coming with you and click on RSVP.

      August 12, 2013

  • JD

If anyone wants to carpool with me, I will be leaving from Palm Beach Gardens at 4pm. It's a small little 2+2 sports car so the front passenger can be a full sized adult and in the rear, either one fill sized adult sitting sideways or two very small adults.
