Skydiving

OK Gang.....

This is where the rubber meets the road. I have asked at meetings, several times in the past, if anyone is interested in going Skydiving. Quite a few raised their hands...  Now it's time to put up.

We will be going to Skydive Chicago in Ottawa. I have jumped there a few times in the past, both with my Son and twice with other members of our group. It is Exciting and Fun!

Information about the venue may be accessed at: http://www.skydivechicago.com/

Rates for a group of three or more without the video are $199.00 per person.

If we have 10 - 19 participants, it goes down to $189.00

If you think you are a 'FOR SURE', please RSVP as soon as possible so that I can get a count.

Please be advised that I am not promoting nor condoning the participation in the sport of skydiving for anyone. It is up to each individual to assess their own fitness and abilities.

The TI that went with me had a 'cut-away" on his very next jump. He had a first time student about Collin's age with him who thought it was awesome!

I'm going to go ahead and say that I think that I'm "FOR SURE" with going and bringing my daughter. I might possibly have 2 more interested parties (wow, and they are actually male!). Probably won't be able to confirm them until early next week. Is there a date when you must have a ABSOLUTE head count?

It had been such a long time since I had been able to come to this group and I was so blown away when the first thing that was mentioned at the last dinner was the idea of skydiving! Ever since I went parasailing in Florida last March I've considered trying this. My daughter and I had been talking about wanting to find somewhere to do this. I think that I most likely will go. I'd love to bring along my oldest daughter. She is going to be 24 earlier that week and it will be her birthday present. I'll confirm as soon as she and I have a chance to talk. Is there any chance for my 16 yr old daughter to come hang out and watch or possibly go up in the plane but not jump?

    2 · August 20, 2014

    • Stevie B

There are several people who have expressed an interest in just coming to watch, and your 16 yr. old is most welcome. The planes are not set up for passengers, and as far as I know Skydive Chicago has no provisions for anyone not jumping to participate in a flight.

Would it be ok if my 18 year old son came with? He would love to do this!

Ok, let me throw this out there to the dare devils....Have any of you done the zip lining thing? My bucket list includes doing that in Costa Rica.

    1 · August 18, 2014

    • Martie

My cousin is moving to Costa Rica in a couple of weeks. On Saturday I told her I would be visiting to zip line in the jungle!

      August 19, 2014

    • Cheryl (.

Martie, personal email me ...I almost bought a home in Costa Rica. (of course with my artwork $...fork add the ex!) If you have space in your suitcase I am in!! After looking at the weather today I might have owned ocean front property in AZ!!

You know you can invite anyone you want to these event's (but at Traverso's it is about us.) I actually invited my ex to go to this..after all I get the life insurance, house, beautiful motorcycle, truck etc ....but it is a SAFE event. Damn, let's find something REALLY dangerous! Oh, Hell he would climb down caves in AZ with rattlesnakes. I guess I better be happy with my settlement! LOL!! I do find it funny that "US" chicks have the guts to do this..too funny!!!

This was always on my bucket list until about 1 year ago -- something to do just because. Unfortunately, finances right now prevent me from doing any extra-curricular activities. Have a great time.

Big bummer. One thing I really want to do..and with such a great group of people. I'll be in Vegas. Have fun!

    August 14, 2014

    • Martie

That ride(all of them at the Stratosphere) is awesome.

      August 18, 2014

    • Cheryl (.

I passed on all of them! My brother lives 40 mins away and we had a family event there. I was freaked out just thinking about falling into a sea of Las Vegas hotels! I would rather fall into a field of colors, soybeans and corn ..with a corn cob....well you can go there with your thought process!! LOL!

WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY! Very regrettably, I can't make it this time. But I'll call into work dead if necessary (not a premonition) the next time this is set up. Thanks Steve.

OK, We need more MEN..so you can tell your boss you have someone on your back that you can't get rid of! Then tell them you will be too "HIGH" to come to work and if you need more excuses I can come up with a few more!

Ok. I am seriously thinking of doing this event. Diane and I just did this with her family this weekend and it was amazing and we both loved every second of it. My nephew and his wife might be in town on this date and if they are then for sure I'll do it because they want to do it too. The only thing holding me back right now is spending the money again...so soon! If I hadn't done it yesterday my name would already be on the list. I'll keep you posted on the status of my nephew coming in. As for the people that are frightened...I totally get it but don't cheat yourself...it's amazing and exhilarating and such a rush. I was sooooo happy I did it. We all said we couldn't wait until we could do it again...it's all about embracing your life and actually living it, not letting it live you! If you think you might want to do it and can afford it, give it a shot. I promise you won't regret it.

Just charge it to the "ex" say "after being married to you for these many years I felt like I had to jump out of a plane!"

      2 · August 18, 2014

    • Andrea B

I know that's what I will be saying!!

      1 · August 18, 2014

Just did this last weekend!!! Amazing!! If you're even thinking about it do it!! No sickness feeling, no fear( goes so fast you don't have time to be scared). Again finances are short, so won't be able to do this now, but can't wait to do it again!! Great way to celebrate the new YOU and your new life!!

    3 · August 18, 2014

  • Andrea B

I am very excited to do this!! Lots of fun!!! Thanks Steve and Cheryl for setting this up.

    August 18, 2014

  • Cheryl (.

OK ..2 of you guys! that are chicks!! (Steve has done this many times before me) out of 587 people in this group? REALLY SERIOUSLY??? Divorce is worst then jumping out of a plane! ..... let me quote a member, who rides a motorcycle like we do "why should I jump out of perfectly good plane!" I WILL AMSWER THAT, IT IS BEAUTIFUL, THRILLING, STAY SAFE (NOT!!!) ON THE GROUND!! The only thing I hit is a cloud! Safer up there then driving! Hope to see more of you sign up.

    2 · August 17, 2014

  • Cheryl (.

If you do go and can afford it get the video. I just looked at mine and now I am really excited to go again. I wish my hair looked better maybe I will get a hair piece ...Oh, hell that might blind the instructor when it comes off and hit someone's windshield below! And for those of you (and I KNOW WHO YOU ARE) that want to respond to my last post about how all instructors are younger then me.....bite me!

    August 17, 2014

  • Lisa

Um... ok this is VERY interesting. I am terrified of heights and the being close to the open door of the plane part will likely kill me but I think I could push through it. If I don't do this with you guys, I know it'll never happen the rest of my life. Let me think on it for a bit (and envision if I have the balls) - but likely I'll sign up.

    1 · August 17, 2014

    • Cheryl (.

You don't see the open door until you jump! And you have someone attached to you. You both pull your chutes open "double coverage". You are even attached to your instructor in the plane. I haven't sat on a younger man's lap in year's!! :-) :-) I almost forgot I was jumping out of a plane! LOL!

Do you have a cost for this? I noticed a Groupon came out today for $149.

    August 14, 2014

    • Cheryl (.

Steve posted the prices above. Thanks for the info about groupon I will have to check that out and see if we can use them on the weekend and if it is for first time jumpers only.

      August 15, 2014

    • Martie

I don't see a groupon for skydive Chicago. I must be missing it. Can you private message me with the info? Please don't post the link on here but if you could send me the info on private message I would appreciate it.
