Ramapo Reservation NYC Views & Waterfall Hike/FREE Fireworks & Jersey Sound Band

I know that the summer is usually our slow time because I personally don't like hiking in the heat, but we will be doing a mid-week after-work hike on Thurs, July 10 starting at 6:00 PM SHARP (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HIKE WILL START EXACTLY ON TIME AND WE WILL NOT WAIT FOR ANYONE!!!!).  We will hike at Ramapo Reservation and then finish just in time to walk over to Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ (30 minutes from the Tappan Zee Bridge).  There, at 8 PM, a Jersey Sound Band will be playing.  After, at 9:30 PM, fireworks will be going off.

This hike is a moderate trail in the Ramapo Valley County Reservation (Bergen County, Mahwah, NJ). The hike is a 3.2 mile round-trip loop hike that will be done at a quick pace (if you don't think you will be able to keep up with us, please do not come to the hike because we want to make it out in time for the concert!!!). Dogs are allowed on a leash. The hike starts out by walking from Continental Soldiers Field along the road for 0.3 miles to Ramapo Reservation.  We will then hike along the Silver Trail to the Orange Trail to the  reservoir.  Then, depending on if we have time, we will take the Silver Trail to the Blue Trail where we will climb to a viewpoint where you can hopefully see NYC on a clear day.

After the hike, we will head over to a FREE concert at the Ramapo College bandshell, which is basically right across the street from the hike.  The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Ramapo College Bandshell. Admission is free to the concert, but parking is $5/vehicle. (Bring your chair or blanket to the Bandshell to leave before the hike begins if you want to save a spot close up).  They also have catered food from from the Mason Jar restaurant available for purchase of (costs approximate) $5 hamburgers/cheeseburgers, $3 hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches.  I also will be bringing a bottle of sangria/wine or beer, which is allowed at the concert in a discrete manner.  Finally, where we are parking is the Field of Creams Cafe, which has many different options, including vegetarian options (http://www.fieldofcreams.net/files/QuickSiteImages/Menu_-_Field_of_Creams_Cafe_April_2014.pdf).

For those coming, I suggest wearing clothes you will be comfortable in. Also, it's recommended to bring a backpack, 2 liters of water, chapstick, sunscreen (especially if you burn easily), and bug/tick spray.  I also recommend bringing a lawn chair or blanket for the concert.

We'll meet at 6:00 PM at the Continental Soliders Park (we are NOT meeting at the Ramapo Reservation parking lot). Driving directions are below. I estimate the hike will take two hours.

My cell phone number is[masked]-4403.  If I am running late, Catherine will lead the hike.

Please comment if you can make it.

Driving Directions from NY via the Tappan Zee Bridge:

After crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge into NJ, follow I-87 North for 15 miles.  Take Exit 15 to merge onto I-287 South/NJ-17 South toward New Jersey.  Follow for 1.3 miles and then take Exit 66, on the LEFT, to merge onto NJ-17 South toward Mahwah.  After being on NJ-17 South for 3/4 of a mile, take the exit ramp, on right, toward US-202 to Suffern/Morristown.  At the bottom of the ramp, stay left to turn onto US-202 South/Ramapo Valley Road.  Continue on that road for 1.7 miles and turn right into the Continental Soldiers Park parking lot (this will be the second light).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
