Intro to Sword Dance with choreography by Nina Amaya!! Two workshops!!

  • to
  • This location is shown only to members

  • Join Nina Amaya and learn to dance with a sword, to enter, and to present it effectively. Nina is offering TWO to be held on March 29, 2013 and one on April 26, 2013. Both will be hosted by Halima in her home.

The joyful choreography we will learn is to the Egyptian song "Layla". Written and video notes included!

The cost is $30/advance; $35/at the door. You may also purchase both workshops for $50!! You may pay via PayPal (PM Jessica Halima Masten Tye for the address) or send a check written out to "Jessica Tye" and mail it to me at: 1828 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, MD 21158. Please be sure to indicate which workshop (or both!) you plan to attend.

We will have at least 6 swords available to borrow. To prepare yourself for balancing a sword on your head prior to the workshop, you may want to try balancing a book or stick.

Come to the workshop and then we can head over to the Java Hafla at Birdie's to continue the fun!! JH begins at 7:00 p.m. and runs until 10:00 p.m. As always, Java Hafla is free!

For strong arms, I recommend this sword from this vendor:

ps- the video on the sword link is me! The musicians are playing the song we are using in class, although I am soloing, so therefore don't have to follow the choreography. I have a real instructional choreography video for students of the class.

Nina, are the two workshops the same? If different, can you explain what is covered in each? Thanks

They are the same. Since we could only schedule an hour, I thought I could offer it twice. I know I learn better if I take something twice, and there are notes and video with which to practice in between. Taking it once is certainly an option. I expect there will be new people the second time. If not, we will make it Part 2, and go more into depth.
